Thank you for posting this! I saw several examples of this during the recent freezing weather in the UK, and was confused as to what it was. I don’t recall having seen it before, but then I haven’t lived in a wooded valley during prolonged double-digit negative temperatures before either.
I’ve never had any problem with Mullvad reconnecting after I’ve run out and paid up again, that has worked seamlessly on mine

It’s ironic that the only people with enough spare cash to hire mercenaries to hunt these people down, are the very same polluting scumbags who could do with being hunted down by mercenaries. I somehow think that paying for hired killers would be against GoFundMe’s terms and conditions too, but it would warm my heart a little to know that someone was out there working their way through a list of the past and current board members of those companies.
And somehow manage to increase their ugliness in direct proportion to their range. It really is an impressive piece of engineering, but damn that is an awful looking car

I’ve been fairly parsimonious with my information for a fair while - I don’t use my real name online except when unavoidable for payment etc, don’t put photos of me anywhere, use social media (other than Lemmy, and I’m not very social on here really!) and I think I have fairly good habits to keep information and habits separated. I alternate between using FF, Librewolf and Mullvad browser for different things, don’t reuse usernames/id’s, use a VPN router at home and have VPNs on my mobile devices, email masks and relays, and where possible pay with virtual cards etc. I think my most unique identifier, last time I checked with the EFF site, was the size and resolution of my screens. I’m not really sure how much data there is to collect about me past the mundane, as I don’t really associate with anyone in the real world online, and almost exclusively use signal in the real world.
I have a VPN router, and will either use Mullvad browser with no other tabs open (and obviously all cookies freshly cleared etc) or maybe a vanilla FF on a VM. With all my details being nonsense, a unique relayed email, and the browser essentially completely resetting after every use, I doubt they can find out much useful about me
I figure that if I can keep it pretty isolated, they’ll only get “scrolls marketplace in SE uk” out of it - I’m never going to look at the feed or have “friends”.

It’s really pleasing seeing the seconds all change in unison!
It’s a fantastic camera, being micro four-thirds it’s pretty small, so it’s great for unobtrusive street stuff, and it’s completely competent enough to work for any other style I’ve tried with it. Also, being a smaller sensor, good lenses are really cheap, and I can carry a whole bunch of them in a small bag without it weighing a stupid amount.
I’d relied on my phone for ages too. It was actually a feature of the newer iOS that convinced me to get it - my phone picks out landscape photos without people from its camera roll, and alternates them as my background/lock screen. It reminded me that I’m actually quite good at the composition side of photography, while making me more aware of the phone’s limitations. While always having a camera in my pocket is handy, I’d forgotten how much I enjoy the tactile part of an actual camera, and since I’ve had the GX9, it’s pushed me to go places and do things just because I have the thing with me.
Ah, it ain’t that old unfortunately! It’s ok, but nothing special. I do a lot of metalwork, so it makes sense to have a dirty one and a clean one. The dirty one has channels in the table for coolant too, so that’s definitely staying in the metalwork shop, and if I can find a small a small radial arm drill then I’ll build a nice big table for that with a proper fence for that.
A decent camera. Specifically a LUMIX GX9, it’s about the best compromise between portability, versatility, price and quality that I could find, and it’s really become a part of my daily life.
A new, cleaner drill press is high on my list. I have an old greasy one, but a decent one for woodworking is becoming necessary
Ha, that rabbit hole yawned right in front of me almost immediately! I’ve ended up with a few, but I’ve sort of stuck on a couple - the Helios 44-6, and a Helios 28mm that turns out to be a Tomioka in disguise (and about 1/5th the price!), and a Nikkor 50mm 1.2, and Nikkor 300mm. The 300mm especially is phenomenal, easily the nicest manual focus I’ve ever encountered, it’s a joy to use and takes absolutely awesome pics. There are a couple still itching at the edges of the irrational-craving container, but I think I’ve managed to rein the gear acquisition in, in general, and am trying to focus on composition, and learning FOSS editing tools like Darkroom.
That would correlate to when I saw it. It’s actually pretty hard to photograph when the ground is frosty, as there’s so little contrast
