That’s also asshole design. Most people are behind some form of nat. It’s especially egregious for customers of ISPs who use CGNAT.

I’d kill for a game with the scope of Skyrim where the NPCs truly felt like they were living their own lives.
Because they don’t always exist.
I feel your pain but the most obvious problem, is that any link that hasn’t federated will lead to a 404.
Ooh. I used to follow this sub. Thanks.
I mean yes but, you don’t have to use it.
Maybe then we just need to mirror that activity here.
I didn’t have a good frame of reference. I see now that 6000+ users is abnormal.
It’s also possible, being that it’s a new instance, it’s just being used to subscribe to communities outside of that instance.
Not specifically. Rarely I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and just feel super paranoid that someone is there. Usually it’s when I’ve been woken out of a dream.
I’m finding oddities. My friend linked me https://lemmy.world/c/hfy. I search the url, I searched !hfy@lemmy.world, and was finally only able to subscribe when I searched just “hfy” and it came up listed as “Humanity Fuck Yeah!@lemmy.world - 4 subscribers”, even though when you click through it’s listed as !hfy@lemmy.world.
Trying to sub to https://lemmyfly.org/c/aviation did the same thing to me. If I search “!aviation@lemmyfly.org” nothing comes up but if I search just “aviation” it appears (since there’s multiple people on my server subscribed).
Anything lemmy.ml my server is already aware of is in perpertual “Pending Subscription”.
And mostly out of curiosity I’ve been trying to subscribe to a kbin magazine from lemmy.one (since that’s supposed to be possible) with 0 luck.
It’s not intuitive for a reddit user combined with overloaded servers not being very responsive to search requests, makes for people thinking they need multiple accounts.
There are some communities I’ve been trying all weekend to get to from lemmy.one unsuccessfully.
I’ve been using nearlyfreespeech.net for (looks) 14 years now. Their business aligns with my ideals and I’ve always been happy with their service.
I’m not even convinced at $3/mo he won’t be in the red.
Same here. If they’d have just framed it differently and put the onus of paying for api access on the users (at a modest fee), almost none of the backlash would have happened.
Then I’d still be oblivious.
I prefer the world the way it was before all the consolidation. I like the ideals of the fediverse and want it to succeed.
Relay user here. I love Relay. Dbrady is the best. And I have no problem supporting him at $3 a month, but f* reddit after all this. I’m not giving them a penny.
I tend to only upgrade the PC when I start to feel it, but I don’t see the deck changing that. I’m a kbd+mouse gamer at heart and there’s too many games I’d just prefer to play that way, in front of a bigger screen.
I want to second using the website as a pwa. It works quite well.
