One of the great joys of poetry, to me, has always been sharing it. As a result, I love talking about it—about poems I love and (claim to) understand, and about those of which are shared with me.

I really enjoy the cadence of this piece, and the choice of language is informal yet strong enough to carry the weight of the ideas its conveying. I’ve never read it before now. What is it that you find most enjoyable?

Man, if I smarter or dumber I’d really want a pet skunk. Unfortunately I’m just the right level of educated to know that I know nothing about anything abnormal pet related.

Internet is a finicky thing. What you should be getting depends a lot on what you pay for, what device you have, and the equipment you’re using, not to mention the infrastructure you don’t control. Without more detailed information, it’s hard to say. But, that said, your download and upload speeds are more than enough to do practically anything you should want without much of an issue.

I had the fortune of knowing, and calling a friend, a student at Colegio de Mexico that studied archeology. He was on quite a few digs to study Aztec and Mayan ruins. I couldn’t perfectly articulate much of what he impressed on me, but what I can accurately say is that there is still so, incredibly much we have to learn about the civilizations of the pre-colonial Americas.

This is an exciting find, for sure.

I’m not supposing to have any answers either, but from a personal standpoint it seems rather selfish to even entertain the idea of making an instance owner do that. It’s not like these people are getting paid for a service (aside from donations, in some cases); they’re hosting in the spirit of the fediverse. Why would I pawn legal work off to them?

I guess I could see how this is infuriating to some without foresight, but when the event was expected from the very beginning I fail to understand how it would incite those feelings.

Yeah, I can understand that frustration. I haven’t been on Reddit much at all leading up to the blackout, and not at all since it started, but I imagine there are more holes than there used to be. On the other hand, though, can you really blame them? Reddit is trying to monetize all of the organic human content there and refusing to listen to the people that help to organize and curate it. I think it’s reasonable to want to take that back given the circumstances. But you’re right in that it still doesn’t make it less inconvenient.

I can easily see that becoming rather tiresome. Instead, if anything were to be done, what about a custom “flair” of some kind? Maybe a little golden lemming by the “link” buttons that rest above the post?

I don’t know. My best bet is that it’s a happy coincidence for them. It’s probably just an actual accidental outage, but it can be spun in a few different ways. Given their push for an IPO, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is an excuse for lower traffic numbers. “Hey, look, these guys all went to protest but there was an outage. Nothing correlates the numbers. Now that we’re back up on XYZ date, everything is returning to normal! It was no big deal!”

If it actually turns out to be something more nefarious, I can’t say I’d be surprised, but I sincerely hope that isn’t the case.

Yeah! I’m still new to everything here, but nothing has yet broken to the point of un-usability. That’s more than I can say for the official Reddit app. Lol.

Yeah, honestly it isn’t too bad. I was a little put-off by the size of everything at first, but, when I checked the settings, there is an option to change the size of the font—and that really helped.

All in all, it isn’t perfect, but I am enjoying it so far. I look forward to seeing it grow and improve!

Fortunately for everyone, though, the most complicated part is getting started. It may be a barrier of entry for some, but just googling “join Lemmy” will get you where you need to be without much fuss. And as this community grows naturally, features and QoL improvements will come with it.

I wish I had more tech knowledge to contribute with, but maybe I’ll eventually get a poetry community rolling.

I think u/spez on reddit has done a phenomenal job helping to increase Lemmy’s appeal as of late. Maybe someone should give him a job?
