Do you specify Ubuntu because you’re also expecting a GUI for post processing, or some other interaction? Because most non-desktop platform tools will do this. E.g., I bind scrot -s \~/screenshots/$(date +%s).png yo a hotkey for interactive area selections. scrot does (active) windows, screens, desktops, whatever. But scrot is one of many; if you drop the toolkit part of your query, you’ll find a half dozen that’ll let you pick the default name generator.
