Classic Ronco politics
Don’t worry about it! Some intrepid American entrepreneur will simply begin producing American EVs immediately.
If modern politics has taught us anything, all you need to do is drop-kick the first domino and the Free Market will do exactly what you want it to do every time with zero follow-up. Society is completely linear like that.
So you literally only want food & shelter? You have no desire to eat from a restaurant, or drink an unnecessary beverage, or watch a movie, or see a play, or travel beyond where you can walk, or any minor luxury if it meant having to work at a grocery store?
Wouldn’t you argue that someone working at a grocery store or any other current minimum wage job should be able to do all that with just minimum wage? Then why not UBI and less than minimum wage?
Maybe 40-50 an hour for one month isn’t a good enough draw because if you don’t get another job immediately you begin the spiral back into poverty. Stability is more important to most people.
That doesn’t make any sense. Why would a job have to pay you more when your basic necessities are covered? It’s literally extra fucking around money. It’s life style money, not living money.
Imagine all your essenital expenses are paid. Are you going to not do any work, or are you going to go do a job so you can afford a better lifestyle?
The best part is that the free market actually needs to do what people claim it does and regulate itself.
If no one is willing to work for $4/hour for spending money, then no one will. The business needs to adapt or die, not the citizen needing to cope or die.
But if someone is willing to do that job, it’s truly of their free will.
Socialism, ironically, is the best solution to such a right wing issue.
You could eliminate the vast majority of illegal immigration and scrap minimum wage by implementing a livable UBI.
Why pay an immigrant more money in cash when you could pay a citizen less because their basic needs are already covered?
While I was initially inclined to agree with you on the argument of “where’s the law, where’s the line” the article is pretty clear there is a law for it where they live.
On the one hand, yeah, I generally agree that children shouldn’t be arrested for something they’re doing just goofing around (to them it seems like a victimless crime), but on the other hand, it’s a sexual crime against children which I firmly believe should have zero tolerance.
AI seems to be getting the same “what can you do about it” privilege as guns, which should be the focus.
To be clear: climate change requires individual responsibility. Keeping your kids off legitimate online pornography websites is too big for citizens to handle on their own and requires government intervention.
They don’t call it Tasha’s Uncontrollable Laughter.
If you didn’t take like 8 seconds to read any part of that article, it says she has rich great-grandparents.
“Look at the great-grandparents she chose to have! What a hypocritical removed!”
“It was the gun that shot my grandson! The gun, I say!”
“Will you get rid of the gun that shot your grandson?”
“When you pry it from my cold dead fingers, commie!”
What the fuck are you try to say? Because one bad organization does bad things, no one can say we should move away from torturing animals for extra profit?
I think Watto saying “I’m a Toydarian! Mind tricks don’t work on me!” like that is a cultural pride thing, not a physiological thing.
Why does the real world keep reading like satire?!

The problem with this is it takes a while to normalize and self regulate. It demonstrably works, but it takes a long time for the dickheads and edgelords to stop making poorly drawn swastikas every day. Longer than any institution is willing to commit to anything.
And that’s exactly why we should be talking about banning HFCS content.
You know chlorine gas is bad, and that’s just a risk you think people should be allowed to take. But you clearly don’t fully understand just what chlorine gas is or what it does to your body. And that notion that a the ‘risk’ part of ‘health risk’ diminishes its severity is like believing the ‘thoery’ part of gravitational theory means we shouldn’t take that seriously.
That’s a bit glib. A pest control company can sell a chlorine gas spray just because it says it on the label?
the original satire of Star Trek turned into a legitimate Sci-Fi show a la Star Trek.
Take a bag, fill it with water, and grip it loosely at the top so all your fingers wrap around like a loose fist.
Now, without turning the bag, use your other hand to empty it by squeezing out the water.
You get most of it out, but there’s still some in there, even if you squeeze violently and it seems like nothing else can come out.
Also, for most of human history, if you’ve poisoned yourself ingesting something, chances are the next thing you’re ingesting is still poisoned. It’s only recently we’ve worked out distilled poison and purified water. So, biologically speaking, better to just be sick for a day so you can get to a different water/food source.
