I would not overly praise old reddit like this. I agree that people were more open minded and willing to engage in substantive discussions, but old reddit was also hosting the likes of /r/jailbait, /r/coontown, /r/n*ggers. There’s good and bad aspects.

There was a guy posting literal gifs of shit and also DMing them to people and somehow I still prefer it over reddit.

It’ll be even better when this gets merged, and drastically improves the state of federation.

Fediverse needs some more fault tolerance before it’ll grow. Hopefully they eventually implement message queues so moderation decisions that fail to federate eventually will.
