The method you describe is untenable for 99.9% of the population. If that is truly the only way to migrate, then this move to passkeys is a catastrophe for security. In the coming years, millions of people are going to be permanently locked out of important accounts. Accounts will be written about the clearly flawed implementation of passkeys by Apple and Google, and a whole generation of people are going to shun passkeys forever. Myself included. This is a nightmare for vendor lock-in. I can see why Apple and Google are so ready to implement this.

I’ve no doubt it’s easier for companies, but I don’t really care about making advertising easier for them. I prefer to make life easier for consumers. Regional taxes and fees and levies aren’t unique to America. How they handle this in other countries is either regional advertising or normalising the price nationally and potentially eating a loss in some high tax areas. The price can also settle a little higher in some regions if the product has low elasticity of demand. Either way, it gives consumers much more information up front.

As you point out, the single point of failure is access to the passkey repository. Of course, this will usually be 2FA, so much more secure than simple passwords which people usually employ.

One major issue, IMHO, is vendor lock-in. I’ve no doubt Apple is going to make migration away from iCloud a huge pain in the ass. It’s just another way they’re going to make it difficult to leave their ecosystem.

I’m also worried about backups. People lose access to their Google and Apple accounts routinely for any and no reason at all. Will these keys be stored in the cloud? If so, access to EVERYTHING is just a capricious random algorithm away from being lost.

I wouldn’t touch any passkey system which doesn’t provide a seamless way to migrate away especially if I’ve lost access to my Apple/Google account.

Of course when thousands of psychopath Palestinian terrorists murder countless innocent people, the real question is, “how can we blame Israel?” Vox really is the worst. Their front page is a litany of justifications for cutting heads off of babies. “Why did Hamas invade Israel?” “This Gaza war didn’t come out of nowhere.” “What a complete siege of Gaza will mean for Palestinians.” Pure unbridled propaganda.

It’s so crazy they don’t have to do that in America. Advertised prices should include all fees and taxes.

There is a power imbalance. Israel could kill everyone in Gaza, with or without the wall. Taking down the wall would result in too many Palestinians killing too many innocent Israelis, so it will never happen. Nor should it.

Hamas has made it clear that taking down the wall would result in tens of thousands of dead Israelis. It’s impossible to negotiate with an adversary which has vowed your demise at any price.

Use this one weird trick to unite the world in your destruction. It’s super effective!

I strongly disagree, but I suspect this will quickly devolve into an argument about the semantics of “terrorism.” So I’ll focus on this part: “intentionally murder innocent civilians.” I do not agree that all successful rebellions required the intentional murder of innocent civilians.

This area is reportedly home to tens of thousands of illegal migrants, and rampant drug smuggling. Many homes are not built to code, and have no access to running water, electricity, or sewage. The entire area is basically a favela at this point. It needs to be shut down. No modern country should permit this.

I can’t sympathise with murderous rapists. I can’t imagine any common ground. I sympathise with the peaceful people of Palestine. Those few who don’t support Hamas.

All Western governments need to evaluate “aid” to countries like Palestine. Billions are sent each year to countries like Afghanistan, and it’s immediately used to oppress, abuse, and murder women and minorities. We need to stop funding terrorists and pretending to be surprised when they use our funds to terrorise people.

This is an empty claim. She didn’t even have the same job titles as the people she was comparing herself against. There are a thousand reasons one person can be paid more than another. Often it’s just negotiating prowess. Often it’s the responsibility of the job title, and the risk and hours that entails. Often it’s tenure at the company, or social skills. Her claim amounts to, “pay me more because I have a vagina.” No.

It’s partly why I haven’t bought an Android phone, ever, and have stuck with iPhones. I know Apple is going to keep supporting the phone and apps within for many years. It’s encouraging that Google will support the newest Pixel with software, but they really need to work on their hardware quality and support now. This has been a consistent sore spot since inception.

I’ve always leaned towards the side of Palestine, but no more. Hamas has been assaulting, raping, and murdering innocent people. Where’s the military strategy in that? How does that help Palestinians reclaim stolen land? There’s just no reason and no excuse. The Palestinian people broadly support Hamas, so it’s not like this is a handful of bad apples.

I’m not arguing rebels should do nothing. I’m arguing they should not assault, rape, and murder innocent women.
