  • Reposting is like Einstein’s ideas and perspectives of time … it’s all relative.

When you see a meme for the first time, it’s not a repost, it’s something entirely new to you … but to someone who saw the content a long time ago, they may have seen it a hundred times.

As soon as you see it, others will come after you to see it for the first time … to them it is new … to you, you just saw it a second time, a third time, a hundred times, it is now a repost

Just like time in the universe … time moves at a certain rate here but between you and me, we both see it at slightly very tiny differences we would never notice … but jump to a different planet, nearer or further from a star, a neutron star or a black hole and time is a completely different thing for everyone

Reposting is the internet equivalent of relativity

  • What? … what’s that? … wait … let me buy the ‘listening app’ for $3.99 monthly subscription first … oh yeah, now I hear you … yeah, feels shitty being a product … oh wait … now I have to buy the $5.99 one time payment app ‘thoughts and feelings’ … there, now I feel I can feel it … yeah … feels shitty

  • Also … the most valuable content I find or want online for my own uses is all text based … reading blogs, forums, news sites, articles, creative writing, wikipedia

I really don’t care about design or flashy lights and pictures … I just want to read the news

I often just toggle the read only view as soon as I find something I want to read and seldom care about what a site looks like … on the other side of that … if the site is so messed up or controlling that it refuses reader view … I skip it and move on

Don’t change the logo … just keep it as is … I identify the app more for the app than for the site it was associated with … I associate Sync with Sync … I don’t associate it with reddit, lemmy, kbin or anything … I just associate it with Sync which makes the most sense to me

That logo only means Sync to me … and as an app I think it should remain that way

  • and I’ll be the first one to say it because either people don’t want to talk about it or they just don’t think about it

SUPPORT YOUR INSTANCE … SUPPORT YOUR OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE

It doesn’t matter who you are on … lemmy, kbin, mastodon or anyone else … find your instance owner and see if they are looking for donations or subscriptions and sign up for them

Sure the only way we can protect this new system is by keeping it federated, open and decentralized … but it all only works if small groups of people pay for the basic hardware services and rental services and any other services out there to keep it all running … yes the costs are minimal for small instances but those costs only add up as their instance becomes more popular.

Supporting your instance means it will stay protected … if you burn out your instance owners or they run into financial trouble … then your instance will start more risks including being shut down or sold to someone else

And it doesn’t take much to support these guys … if we all just gave a dollar a month, it would be more than enough to support them.

Does Dawson have any lemmy, kbin, mastodon connections we can link to?

I want to connect with his account without reddit and give through patreon or any fundraising he is doing … I dumped reddit but I had been using sync for years and I paid for the lifetime subscription just before going off … after what he did for us for years, I’m more than willing to give funding to him for his work
