Mine is Magic: The Gathering, except I fully realize that I am pulling away from it and why.

The game sparked an immense amount of joy when I picked it up in high school. Now I barely recognize the game anymore. It doesn’t truly have an identity of its own and exists in this permanent state of limbo where 3rd party IPs are taking over the demand for new product and the rules are becoming so bloated that they can’t fit them on cards anymore.

This is such an “old man yelling at clouds” moment for me, because I heard just about every reason under the sun for why people quit the game when I was playing from power creep to changing art styles to just getting priced out of the hobby in general. I realize now that those people were not wrong, they were just not the target audience anymore. I am no longer a profitable demographic to pander to. I never buy packs anymore, and I’ve even stopped buying singles and I don’t attend tournaments or collect anymore, so why would Hasbro/WotC make products for me? Especially when there are deep pocketed whales out there who will pay top dollar for their favorite crossover set, no matter how silly or out of place it might seem.

I wish I could enjoy the game the way I used to, but I just can’t be bothered to hop back in when it doesn’t feel the same anymore.

I got accused of this the other day. Some random on Steam added me because he liked my profile pic. I was bored and decided to humor him. Two sentences in and he’s like “What’s with the ChatGPT sounding responses?”.

I honestly didn’t know how to react to that.

I have issues with YouTube playback specifically on my work laptop. At home it’s fine. It just started one day where videos sometimes fail to auto play and requires multiple refreshes. Even once they get going they often stall out and the progress bar goes all the way back to the beginning so I’ve gotten in the habit of taking notes of the time before I hit refresh and hope it comes back before I completely lose all interest.

I’d use Piped instead, but it has literally never once worked for me. Videos never load.

I can’t read this phrase anymore without reading it in Admiral Kizaru’s voice automatically.

I haven’t been really able to get into playing it. All the servers seem overloaded right now. I get on and fly around in MM for a bit and then when i try to take a mission from the contracts app it doesn’t show up in my log. I was lucky to finally get my F7A reward after several days of logging in to see “no missions completed” for the Overdrive Initiative check.

I’m really enjoying the new UI, especially the minimap. That was one thing I honestly never expected to ever come to SC, but having it makes a huge difference especially to players who may not be familiar with where to go to find specific stuff in cities.

The FPS is so smooth right now. I’m getting less choppiness and more smooth gameplay. Dunno if that’s a server thing or a game optimization thing but hopefully they keep it up and keep it in this zone for as long as possible.

I always thought that Fox was a cool name for a dude ever since I watched the X-Files. If I had to change my first name, that’s what I’d pick.

I want people to know that life was the greatest fucking thing to ever happen to me. I loved it all, even the parts that sucked, just because I got to take it all in. The highs of joy, the lows of sadness, the good, the bad. People will say “Too bad he never got to live a full life,” but I say FUCK that! This was fucking incredible! This IS a full life because it’s the one I got, and just the chance to experience this universe is so unbelievably goddamn beautiful

I don’t have anything to add to the discussion, but that particular line resonated with me. When I was in college, one of my professors said something pretty profound that I think is relevant to this. I can’t remember if he was quoting someone of if this was original, but I’m paraphrasing it here:

“Everyone who has ever lived was alive during the greatest time to be alive.”

So I think you are absolutely right. Life is a blessing and you got to be here for the best life had to offer, and that’s awesome. We are all but motes of dust, and the span of a full life versus a life cut short is inconsequential in the grand scheme. I’m sure you’ll leave something behind that will be worthwhile and will help carry your memory forward in time.

I don’t doubt that that’s the case, but I’m just pointing out (humorously) the absurdity of someone who is purportedly a principled individual who cares about things like climate change, civil/human rights, equality, bodily autonomy and most importantly democracy changing to the side that is openly against all of those things because people can be harsh and nasty on the internet sometimes.

Like, if someone really was so flimsy with their morals that they could bend so easily, did they ever really care in the first place? Or were they just looking for an excuse to blame the other side for their fecklessness?

Lemmy is basically a full replacement. The only time I find myself going back is if I’m looking for information on a niche or obscure topic and reddit seems to have a lot of those communities while Lemmy doesn’t (yet).

I also get Google search results from Reddit too, but the mass scrubbing of data has turned any thread older than a year or so into a mass grave of deleted comments and sometimes context is missing which is sad but I also hope that people will learn from this and Google will start actually getting their search engine algorithms out of social media for that reason.

Yes, that is literally how that works. You’ve never heard the phrase “time is money”? That’s what that means. Money is nothing but a physical (or digital) representation of someone else’s time.

Looking sharp, my man. I think this looks fine for an interview. The point is that you are making an effort. You’re not there to win a beauty contest, you’re there to present yourself as a responsible and capable employee. Interviewers are generally aware that not everybody has the cash lying around to get a tailored suit for an interview, so it’s okay if you look a little awkward or feel uncomfortable.

If you want to take this to the next level, look into “dress shirt stays” or “shirt keepers”. They’re a device that help keep the shirt looking freshly tucked, and some have the added benefit of also keeping your dress socks hiked up if you have that problem as well (like I always did).

Can’t see your shoes in the pic, but obviously a nice pair of black dress shoes will really complete this outfit.
