  • You can buy cheap dumb adapters that are just metal rings and transmit no data or more expensive adapters which transmit data and allow autofocus. Buy cheap adapters for any old lenses you want to use and expensive ones when you value the lense tech.

I’ve got a D750 and an XT100. Given the smaller size and the cheaper old lenses I can run the XT has gotten more use in the past few years.

  • It took someone pointing it out for me to consider reproductive choice being related societal violence even though I knew choice was better for societal economic outcomes.

Given the shift to confront, stop, and treat all forms of childhood abuse rather than ignore it also had to help. During the satanic panic the administrations stance was to blame mothers for failing to take care of their husbands as the root cause of childhood abuse. They had the data that showed abuse was linked to poverty more than anything else but it was cheaper to blame women. We’re still not in a great place when dealing with childhood abuse but we’re better than that and it has to have done something.

  • I’m loving the game, about 18 hrs in. A lot of the complaints are a positive to the right people like system tutorials are “hey this exists, have fun” rather than making you sit through long explanations, you can ignore tons of content if you want. Don’t want to do outposts that’s fine buy or mine yourself, don’t wanna build a ship buy a premade. The game is a Bethesda RPG with a lot of area separate from the main quest, if you wanna explore there’s 1000 planets, if not there’s a handful of really cool ones the quests lead you to.

Performance wise she’s a hungry game. I’m at recommended and I get 50-70 fps, 1080p, medium settings, FSR 2 for most spots. Even when it dips into the 30s I only notice because I have an overlay counter. Few minor bugs and hiccups. If you liked Elder Scrolls or Fallout check it out. Some people will love it for years to come, others will hate it with a passion.

  • Heavy metals and PCBs are most common in my area, various VOCs aren’t far behind. Prior to the EPA and associated legislation companies would commonly use waste process waters for dust control, dump wastes in to pits or on the ground, spills would be left to soak away, and general processes were dirtier and uncontrolled.

One terrible example from western NY that bugs me even more than Love Canal is the involvement with the Manhattan Project. Local steel workers rolled Uranium and they were never told what is was, given any protections, or cared for when the inevitable happened. Radioactive waste was later used as fill for residential and commercial properties in the area. These Hotspot still exist and it is a slow process to get any cleanup done.
