Cooler control is great if you need to control the pump and fans of a CPU cooler. I’m not sure if it can do case fans like fan control but I just set them in the bios anyways.

Yea! It’s just an hdmi plug with no cable that makes your machine think that a monitor is plugged in. They are about $5-$10 online. You can set it to whatever resolution that you want so when you turn your main monitor off, this dummy monitor is still “on” and it will be what gets used when you start streaming to another device. There are ways to automatically switch to this dummy monitor and turn off all other monitors when you connect to stream and set everything back when you disconnect but I haven’t messed with that yet.

Another option may be to try using a dummy plug to fake a monitor with whatever resolution and aspect ratio you need. There are scripts that work with the sunshine/moonlight combo already listed that will switch your primary to the dummy plug when connected and switch back on disconnect.

Nobara was my first attempt at leaving windows for good and it was great until it wasn’t. I went a few months without ever booting windows but started having issues when I bought a new gpu. I went from Nvidia to AMD and everything I read online said you just install the AMD gpu, nothing else needed to be done. Every game I tried to play and would crash within 20 minutes every single time. I eventually got so frustrated that I just booted windows, ran DDU, downloaded adrenaline and I was up and running. After I got settled in, I nuked nobara and installed bazzite and haven’t had a single issue since.

So, what about stuff like frame generation, anti lag, boost, etc? Is there no way to use these on Linux? It’s not a dealbreaker to me but it was cool to play with.

Ah, that’s right. I was having issues with xorg at one point and started using Wayland and completely forgot I could switch. I’ll see if it works now.

I went through Ubuntu, PopOS, and Nobara before I landed on Bazzite and so far it’s been the one that just works for me. I love all the built in tools like cooler control and the fact that I can just roll it back on boot if I mess something up. The only thing I’m missing so far is that I was using the Barrier app to control my work pc during the day but it doesn’t work on Wayland. I also just made the switch to an AMD gpu and I really like the adrenaline software on windows.

My pc only has 1 nvme slot so I used an $18 sabrent pcie to nvme adapter to add another nvme and keep my Linux and windows separated. Just wanted to put this out there in case you want an easier way to switch between OSs.

The issue I ran into with obsidian is that it saves the file with each keystroke. I wanted to store my notes in proton drive but the constant saving would cause it to error out. There is no adjustment on the save interval either. This is probably done to push people into paying for their cloud service. It felt like too much of a hassle and I’m not a huge note taker anyways so I get by with the notes app on my phone.

I hate to break it to you but it’s not just the budget dells that have build quality issues. I just received a $5k precision that was delivered with fucked up bios settings, non working thunderbolt ports and a trackpad stuck in the down position. I love the laptop but god damn that was frustrating.

My brother and I started playing Grounded together as a way to just chill and catch up throughout the week. We were shocked with how much content was actually in the game. It’s like Valheim mixed with Honey I Shrunk The Kids, 4 player online coop, base building, survival. It has a storyline so there’s always a sense of direction and it syncs the world with everyone regardless of who plays so it’s easy to just come and go. I could definitely see a group of 10 year olds getting sucked into this.

My gaming pc is w10 and I’ve decided that my next build won’t be windows. If it doesn’t run on Linux then I won’t be playing it. I have a few w11 devices for work and it’s exhausting having to deal with the constant changing bullshit that they push out.

I can’t help with the Linux specific part but you can check logical increments to get a feel for your budget and adjust from there.

If you are looking for an all in one solution that will work for most setups, the Shelly 1 is a great option. It’s wifi, so no extra hubs needed. Has full local control with a web interface and optional mobile app with (cloud based) control from anywhere. It can switch ac or dc and has a set of dry contacts that you can connect an external switch or sensor to. Another cool feature is a fallback WiFi connection. If it loses connection to your WiFi, it can broadcast its own network for you to connect to. It’s also only around $15-$20. I used one on my driveway gate for a few years and it worked great. The relay would activate the gate opener and I had a cheap reed switch wired into the dry contacts to tell me if the gate was opened or closed.

Since you mentioned high cpu temps, do you have a water cooler? It’s possible that the pump is running at a reduced speed or not at all. If it was functioning fine on windows that leads me to believe that it’s not hardware related like some are suggesting.

Not sure it’s exactly what you are referring to but Logical Increments sounds similar. I check it from time to time to get a ballpark number on new builds.

The S8 was the beginning of the end with Samsung phones for my wife and I. Her S8 quickly died with the same motherboard issue and the replacement had a permanent blurry camera. The motherboard issue was widespread and probably would have had similar attention to the s7s batteries if it were also exploding.

I don’t understand why he won’t just own up to the wrong gpu thing and move on. It’s like getting pissy that the f150 exhaust sounds like shit on your ford ranger.
