Linux@programming.dev•After 9 Months on Mint I switched to Kubuntu and I'm loving it!!English
3·25 days agoThanks solid advice.
I do care about why people don’t like cononical, but it’s a marathon not a sprint.
Every step in the right direction is a win.
I really want to find a nice distro that just works and that I can eventually switch friends and family onto.
It might not be the MOST ethical or best distro, but it’s better than Microsoft and to me that’s enough.

101·25 days agoThanks I’ll give them a try, EndeavoursOS is next on my list.
I know it’s dumb but I just really don’t like the name Fedora so I’ve strayed away so far 😅 Names matter

16·25 days agoI’ve heard this is quite a mess to maintain.
Ideally I want to find the best out of the box solution so that I can switch friends and family over to when I feel they and the software are ready

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think Trump will fall because of the new Epstein emails?English
4·27 days agoHonestly I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve gotten to that point.
They’d claim it’s AI generated and move on to ‘more important thigns’ like the money wasted on foodstamps

63·29 days agoThis is so dumb wow.
Good luck out there in the dating pool if something like this will have you disqualify someone.
I’m sure there was people shouting that they refuse to date people who send emails instead of letters back in the day.

3·1 month agoYea I get that, the same is true where I’m from. Only a lucky few of us have the option to move if we want to, are willing to make the sacrifices and put in the effort.

9·1 month agoSell your car, and buy a plane ticket plus your first months accommodation, that’s what I did. In much of Europe you don’t need a car, where in the US that’s not true.
IDK, look I’m not saying it’s easy at all, moving continents is a very difficult thing trust me I know. Sadly many good things don’t come easy.

8·1 month agoOne thing living in the EU has taught me is how valuable Work Life Balance is. Where I’m from working overtime, being burnt out and not having job security is normal.
You have no idea how nice it is to have 25 days paid leave each year, full job security and basically never having to work overtime.
I would pick that over a 30% higher salary any day of the week. Work to Live, don’t Live to Work.

2·1 month agoIf I could do it from Africa for a better life, I’m sure Americans can do it from a first world country.
It’s definitely not easy leaving everything you ever knew behind to live on a different continent but The Pro’s are Healthcare, Employee Rights, Stability, Safety etc. so it’s so worth it for many.

16·1 month agoMoving from US to EU seems like such an obvious choice. You gain healthcare, employee rights, walk-able cities etc.
It would be great if it could run fully locally with loads of security around it so only you have access
EU Made Simple (the creator of the video above) made a video about Immigration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2b5z1FJTs8
I mostly agree with it, if we follow this model it will stop a lot of people moving far-right

61·2 months agoa big issue for open-source is funding, I don’t see having a pro version as an issue when all you get for pro is basically a few more themes and tech support.
It’s still a giant leap in the right direction switching from Windows
