• More features that require an always on internet connection?
• Forced restart for software updates

This is why I expect Linux share to slowly increase until the old computers die and you will not be allowed to choose to boot another operating system besides Windows on your Microsoft-Copilot+ PC that would be your only option.

This story is amazing. I personally thought about canal development in a more positive light, as cargo transport over seas is the most fuel efficient form of transport known to men, beats even trains. Rowing in boats is also fun! Also most landlocked countries are poorer and have less freedom, because they have 0 access to the open oceans to trade and flee opressors and neighbors.

Ships are more fuel efficient in transporting large mass anyway. shipping is the most energy-efficient form of freight transportation. Replace all roads with river ways!! All trucks with cargo ships… and some Yachts for public transport.

My Predictions for Pakistan:

• they border Afghanistan, a landlocked country, so they will need to invest more in their northern border “security”
  • that money will be missing on social issues
• after the US left Afghanistan, Pakistan lost its relevance for the US as a transit country, over time they will loose even more interest as Northern Eurasia is more important right now.
• Pakistan can not defend its northern parts from further Indian expansion, cutting it off from China
  • this means complete isolation and constant risk of implosion for Pakistan, as they only have borders with Afghanistan and India left after that, 2 non allied countries.

The only way they can stop being imploded is ecnomic growth and stability, which is hard if not impssible in the current situation.

Some automated algorithms can be good for content discovery and discovery of new creators tho

• if you are to lazy to type in your search term into a text box
• if you do not even know how to articulate the name of the content you search for in text form

These automatic suggestion algorithms are perfect for mindless scrolling in an entertainment sense … these ranking algorithms justify the massive data collection we witness today.

I wonder if there is another way of decentralized way of content creator discovery without the current drawbacks.

Purely text based content is way easier on the servers. If all Lemmy users uploaded videos and high res images all the time, the servers could not keep up, right?

I start to realize how synchronized big tech is acting currently

• google experiments with blocking youtube users with ad blockers
• twitter blocks unregistered users, heavily advertises its app
• reddit blocks api and 3rd party access, heavily advertises its app
• microsoft creates windows 11 lets windows 10 users with old hardware insecure

Is this because they all act in unison? Or is it the general ecnomic situation (low prime rates by the central bank) of the American tech giants that leads them to “coincidentally” making the same decisions? My suspicion is its the latter combined with the power they accumulated over the past decade.
