Yeah, nothing manages great endurance when you start mashing the throttle.. Does always make me wonder how much they have in the tank when I see that shit, though.

I’ve still got a fancy IRC setup with a bouncer and whatnot.
These days discord has pretty much taken over its niche though, and it’s what I’m on 99% of the time outside of chatting with the community for a half-dead 20 year old game. But, not long ago in my lifetime IRC was 100% the way to go for this sort of text chat, and a lot of that still exists. And well, it’s absolutely dead simple and resilient as a protocol.
So he’s following the one that’s actually an issue. Cool.
Nah, the worst part is it’s not even original. This has been getting passed around for about a year.
Not a union that had and still has strike-worthy grievances, or a major union within the railroad industry. Has made a great pro-Biden press piece though.

If you want to see some of the most disturbing shit ever recorded about that. CW I don’t have all the Hexbear features, it’s the act of killing. It’s a doc where they interview people who murdered about a million suspected communists in Indonesia and then had some of the people who did it put on a stage production about it: https://www.nipissingu.ca/library/video-streaming-nipissing/humanities-and-social-sciences-videos/act-killing
Also, these guys are still walking around and are deeply embedded into local politics.
Hell if I know.
Because they look at the contradictions and blame them on things like some ethnic group ruining everything. Labor movements have actually traditionally done a lot of that, but fascists solely want to blame regular working class people for the issues that capitalism wrought. (And exterminate them.) And again, we try to avoid talks of utopia. We just want to move on from capitalism.
One of the biggest historical arguments on the left from all sides is against the idea of Utopianism. There are huge, obvious problems with capitalism that can be fixed, but they’re not the end of it. Where we go from there is almost anyone’s guess.
The immediate problem we have is that the 1% own everything and control everything. And, if they own everything and control everything we don’t really have democracy, do we. That’s what people are saying about contradictions. If we can somehow make it so the people own everything and control everything, we’ll be several steps ahead.
My education I got in Ohio was abysmal about this shit. Most of it was just review after elementary. And I say that as someone who would read the textbooks cover to cover.
A people’s history of the US was probably pivotal for me properly turning left, didn’t find it until well afterwards though.
Those basically always show up after the thread has already seen tons of activity from this instance.
But, it is a part of the three-year-old culture that could be problematic with federation, and has been a topic of debate because of that. We just always post an actual link to the topic cause that’s more interesting and informative than just seeing a screenshot. (Plus if you don’t you’re a lib.)
/Edit - What’s even funnier in all this is our devs just happened to be working on un-forking our pre-federation codebase to a point where we could federate when the Reddit exodus happened. They even announced it something like a week beforehand, but IIRC the main point was in being able to integrate all the nice upstream improvements. And, especially of note, before that we were probably 80% of activity on all Lemmy instances.
That’s literally what concentration camps are. Points where you “concentrate” a population you’re trying to control.
Outright murdering the people you have in them was a Nazi death camp thing, but the Brits were probably most famous for using them before that while attempting to suppress colonial rebellion.
Ohio’s often an is or isn’t it inclusion in the Midwest for good reason. We’re kinda split between Appalachia, the Great Lakes/Northeast, the Midwest, and the South. And, with all that the Midwest is probably the dominant bit by landmass, but one of the weaker areas by population.
(Also an original mostly-lurker hexbearite, and probably primarily responsible for midwest.social starting to see our communities. 👋)
It can also be used as a form of semi-covert harassment. For example, in an early instance, every bit of trans-related content would get hit by a swarm of downvotes from brigaders using otherwise inactive accounts. Hard to moderate that.
They also originally thought they’d have it update in real time which was a bit of a mistake. When you’re running a small test instance it’s kinda neat if comments and posts pop up as they’re made, but the reality of that is a scroll jacking nightmare.
CSIS like most of our “think tanks” is also a barely disguised corporate lobbying group that pretends to be something more.
