Oooh I finally understand what the whole hexbear thing is. It’s a blockable echo chamber of a vocal minority.
Every single hostile comment here when you click on the profile. Hexbear. Neat!
Damn my Lemmy is about to get a lot more peaceful.

Not in the US it’s not…
Yeah I have almost no apps on my Home Screen. Just one page of widgets, and 3 pinned to the bottom.
Otherwise if I want an app I just use spotlight. Quick swipe down and the first letter or 2 of any app and I’m in. I almost never touch the App Library.
This prob comes from using spotlight so much on Mac as well though.
I haven’t had one myself for a while, really anymore I just see it when watching vids on the flip phones or tablets it seems.
But android gave me the reason to switch (the messy apps) years ago, and apple hasn’t given me a reason to switch back yet.
It very well might be fine now, but until apple does something similar enough to push me to switch again, I won’t know haha.
It really just depends on if you prefer customization or reliability.
For example, I’m an apple boi because I like that every app in the store is made specifically for an iPhone (which is easy for devs to do since there’s little variation). It leads to better maintained and performing apps because devs can optimize for the device it’s running on.
On android, you have way more choices, which some people prefer. But for myself, I get really annoyed when I launch an app and it fills 95% of my screen, but not all of it, because my phone is slightly taller then the 2000 other variations out there. It’s much harder for a dev to optimize their app when there are so many variables to account for on android.
Neither phone (or company for that fact) is better. They serve different demographics of users is all.
Ooh. Bloodborne too me years due to this…. Better times back then lol 10/10 would suffer again.
Don’t get me wrong. Families got it plenty hard. I’m not fighting that. But don’t forget as a solo person, you don’t get to split the bill on anything.
Families have the disadvantage of larger costs, but the huge advantage of split bills/duel income. You don’t have that advantage.
Times be hard for everyone, just in different ways 🫠
I didn’t wanna maintain an ad blocker, especially since I use youtube on a bunch of diff devices. Desktop/laptop/Ps4/Tv/Ipad/Phone like, everywhere. Premium just meant no ads on any of them with no fuss or maintenance.
Also the bonus of downloads/music/background play etc was very nice.
Honestly for someone like me who uses youtube as much as I do, it was 100% worth the money. I just ethically can’t bring myself to pay for it now that they straight up lied and took my money without even trying to be subtle about it.
Yeah I only ever saw it on Desktop since I do most my viewing there, and even then only on specific videos. So its not crazy frequent, just annoying its a thing at all.
I do love the idea of youtube building in a skip for in vid sponsors though, that would possibly bring me back haha. Like if sponsored creators were required to add a “sponsor” chapter to their vids, so premium users could have it just skip that block of the video 🤔
I mean, in the image above it specifically says “You can go ad-free with YouTube premium.”
They don’t say “get rid of pre roll ads” or “remove banner ads” they just say “ad-free” which it specifically is not. They still show me an ad, so it’s not ad-free. That’s just a lie.
I def do not believe they are within their rights to add ads whenever they want, when I specifically bought “ad free”
I know I can’t trust google to stand by their word, I’m just saying that this is what finally broke the ol camels back and pushed me away from giving them anything, even my eyes on their “free” platform.
Threw in a response on the thread above, don’t wanna just copy past spam haha.
I think you have to be watching a video that it connects to.
So for example I was watching the Game Grumps play Peppa pig (lol I know but it was hilarious) so it put an ad saying “try paramount plus to watch peppa pig” under it.
I’ve seen it on a few other vids that have movies associated, like sonic for example. Seems to be a semi recent thing though
(Is this how I post a pic on Lemmy? lol)
My problem is that I paid for YouTube premium, for “an ad free experience” in their words. Then I immediately had an ad for paramount plus embedded under my video.
So I canceled and they can go fk themselves. I was willing to support them directly, but they straight up lied about what I was buying from them.
“You can go ad free with YouTube premium!”
Buys premium
youtube shows ad for paramount plus under my video
Cancels YouTube premium.
So anywho there’s a thing called freetube. Just saying. Idk that it’s a perfect alternative, but it’s at least one step further from googles prying eyes and grubby hands.
As a white person from Wisconsin who never crosses the boarder… this is extreme and scary.
Yeah it sure does. Probably just because trans people specifically have been having a shit time lately with all the assholes.
So it’s nice to call them out specifically in a positive way. That’s my assumption at least.
And it’s also gods will when they want an abortion. Weird how that works both ways for them🤔
I hope they’ve seen that one episode of Futurama…
You can also use Steam itself to run external launchers via proton! Might not be the best way, but it was super easy for a noob like me to figure out.
Let’s me play ffxiv (non steam) and bnet games quite easily!
