Canberra actually - it’s an old dairy building that’s part of Duntroon (one of the original homesteads of the region but more well known for being where RMC/ADFA is). It pre dates Canberra by a good bit though since development of the city only really began to gain traction in the 1920s.
The oldest extant building is circa 1832, so ~192 years old - not much compared to some places but doing well for an Australian building.

The majority of cars don’t have a warning for low oil levels, the sensor for that has historically been the owner checking the dipstick. Oil level sensors are becoming more common now as more models appear with them but are still not ubiquitous even in brand new cars.
The oil warning light in most cars is for low oil pressure, and if that one comes on it’s time to pull over immediately and hope you managed to turn the engine off in time to save the bearings.

It’s SimCity 2000, and it’s making me wonder how fast African Swallow speed would be on a modern computer - I believe that speed was basically progressing time as quickly as the computer could and it was pretty fast even on the 166(?) MHz processor of the Mac I played it on as a kid.
How pervasive surveillance and tracking of people (and their data) is in todays society. We’ve become accustomed to it but I’d bet people a century ago would be shocked at the idea of stuff like regular people being filmed from multiple angles when just going to the shops, having a device in their pocket constantly recording their location, receiving targeted advertising based on what information they’ve looked at previously, etc.

Thanks for the idea, looks like converting them might open up some more options for viewing. I’m only intending to view already created maps rather than creating data so I don’t need GIS suite functionality once I get the maps on the phone (really only need geolocation, marker points etc are nice but not necessary), viewing as an OsmAnd layer sounds promising if I could get that to work easily for multiple files.
Can confirm, I found creating a new Microsoft account and doing literally nothing with it for around half an hour is suspicious enough to lock the account and require a phone number.
What do you mean electric motors have no transmissions?
They do though, it’s just that most are single speed reduction boxes (unless you’ve got a Taycan).
Why argue only about the transmission? Why not have cars with manual ignition?
Because on an enjoyment:effort scale a manual transmission ranks a lot higher than stuff like hand starting, manual ignition timing or manual chokes.
If you dislike machines making your life easier, stop driving all together.
Do you also tell photographers to quit photography if they use manual mode to control their camera, or woodworkers to only use powered tools instead of hand tools? Sometimes having that bit more of a connection to or control over what you’re doing is just more engaging or more enjoyable - maybe you don’t care about that when driving but there’s a lot of people who do.
There are obviously exceptions, hence why I said often instead of always. Think larger scale and/or involving fixed objects and cardinal directions tend to be logical, for example:
Install the equipment in the western plant room.
Please set up the workstation near the power point on the western wall of the room.
Come in via Foo Rd, when you get to the intersection with Bar Rd turn west.
My desk is in the south western corner of the office.
Walk west along the ridge from the carpark, then once you reach the giant boulder take the northern spur down to the river.
Cardinal directions as references instead of left/right are often a better option when describing locations, more people should use them. It’s not like it’s hard to get an idea of where north is - even if you’re a bit challenged on the spatial awareness front basically everyone these days has a phone that will easily tell you this.
Two 500gb SSDs for OSs and stuff I want to load quickly (one drive for Windows, one Linux), and two 1TB HDDs as storage (shared, but primarily used as game storage from Windows).
You start with a house old enough to have the kitchen designed around a wood stove (which goes in that alcove). Someone eventually rips it out and tries to modernise the kitchen, leaving a weird space and a kitchen layout which is a bit off. The original walls and room layout are often messed with as well, which doesn’t help.
It always surprises me that EV manufacturers don’t just have the car always keep the 12v battery charged enough to keep essential systems running. The car already has the hardware to charge the 12v battery and a massive traction battery to provide power - it wouldn’t be that hard to charge the battery if it goes flat when the car is off.
Kangaroos are the clear winner in my experience, but we’ve also got possums and various parrots (e.g. sulphur crested cockatoos). Wombats too but they’re less common to see.
