  • I never said feet.

That is so inconsequential. I don’t care if it was the tip of their elbow. The part doesn’t matter. Why focus on it? You’re doing nothing but distracting by pointing at something that doesn’t matter.

That was my argument on her.

This whole time I’ve been talking about the act and that I don’t know this person. Once again, not what I’ve been talking about. I care about the act because it is selfish. That is why my first post on this I said “Just because you made a selfish choice doesn’t make you a [selfish] person…”

    It only affects her.

No, it does not only affect her. Have you never lived with people or been in a community. It takes time and effort to take care of people. If you’re ‘sick’ and people take care of you, if you expect people to have the same amount of support after denying the ‘cure’ you’re being selfish. If we keep up treating everyone the same, then we cannot ‘step up’ to help sick people.

You say she treats them like they’re just hands and feet, which is simply wrong.

You should re read what I typed…“[I]put myself into the shoes of someone who is helping her. “Oh, all I am is a foot?””

Nothing in this situation harms anyone,

Which is why I tried explaining why I put harm in quotes. I didn’t argue she is giving people super cancer by not accepting help or not getting arms and feet re-attached

Her disability is not a burden on anyone.

Any ONE? sure. Not what I’m arguing. It’s great that everyone helping her has the time and ability and desire to help her.

You seem to have started arguing against a phantom in the middle there

Yeah, anyone with experience is just traumatized and reflexively saying that everyone is just pushing that trauma onto others. You don’t know me, you should give me that respect. That’s why I made no judgement on her overall character. I don’t know that. But the act is obviously selfish.

implied that the only reason to do nice things is so other people like you?

If you break it down like that why not take it all the way? The only reason to help people is because it gives ME feel good brain juice 😈 What about the only reason to help people is to manipulate them into giving me their efforts when I request them 😈 didn’t you know, helping people is the most selfish act of all 😈

If you want to know how I feel about “help” is that it is just an inherently good thing to do. I chose my career specifically to help people.

    She’s not pushing anyone away.

Good thing it’s a fantasy comic.

her learning to accept their aid

Even if I agree with you on everything, how is that supposed to show she isn’t acting selfish with her choice from earlier?

  • I’m not as great formatting in text. But you started this by saying arms and feet. The rest were mostly
along the lines of the text has multiple meanings and I’m using certain ones.

I made no judgement on her overall character. I haven’t argued her whole is selfish. That one instance is her being selfish. I did read what you wrote? Your argument on that specific act not being selfish is “she’s done good things.” I don’t care. I don’t know her. That act is selfish, the choice is selfish.

I don’t care if they’re family. Am I not allowed to complain about acts that ‘harm’ me?

I’m sorry, is that supposed to make me not feel that she’s selfish. I have experience with people doing that “oh no, I cannot accept a gift” any every time I’ve seen someone do that it’s from past trauma. The reason why I’m going to push back against anyone saying “let them stay traumatized” is because helping people and giving gifts makes people like you more. If you do that you’re going to push people away, and make it harder to live/have friends/get help in the future/form bonds with people. No, that is bull shit behavior. You probably posted the one thing that would make me dislike her more.

  • She is selfish by choosing to not “pull her weight”. She became selfish by that choice.

I understand there are some communities that choose things like keeping their child deaf, but if you’re choosing to put more weight on me then that does go into my perception of you.

I’m not going to force anyone into “becoming healed”. But they are choosing. That choice is when it becomes selfish.

No, it isn’t as selfish as a billionaire putting children in mines to see their bank account grow.

Everyone makes selfish choices all the time.

Just because you made a selfish choice doesn’t make you a bad person, or even means you “hurt” someone. Doing good deeds before doesn’t make future acts not selfish.

When I first read “she has all the arms and feet she could ever want” all I did is put myself into the shoes of someone who is helping her. “Oh, all I am is a foot?” Is an easy thing to see someone feeling, especially after learning they’re choosing to keep you there.

  • I have a 20yo car with a bad torque converter that I’m dragging my feet in replacing.

It shakes at stops and to get it to stop shaking I shift it to neutral. Your car is in the shop so you can’t really make that test.

Fuel sensors can cause some funky things though. Give fuel when it shouldn’t and not give when it should. It will cause misfires that way.

Driving with faulty parts will cause other systems to fail. It’s usually better to replace things sooner rather than later.

  • Internet websites aren’t the government.

Hate speech is bad for business. It only makes sense for corporations to ban hate speech.

You can make a nazi website, for nazis, by nazis. Those already exist.

I see one chud and I’ll block them. If the site is nothing but chuds I won’t use it.

If a website sucks, use a different one. Your attention is monetized, and if you want to say nazis are good to be around then give them space to exist. If not then do something about it. The website owners are not restricted by freedom of speech.

I personally feel like large enough public forms should be held to a higher standard, and if people said half the things they do online irl they’d get beaten and thrown in jail.

  • Lancer is great. It is complicated, not as complicated as battletech though. Which to me is great for getting new players in.

The best way I’ve found to teach people in that system is to create a new character in their character sheet/compendium website, comp/con. And then have a GM to run the game and help with concepts. License Level 0 (starting level) is very restrained. The next level (LL1) opens up interesting opportunities. And then LL 2 is where your options become a bit opportunity heavy.

The official discord is active and there are several other side discords that are active. I’m currently both playing and GMing. There is a reprint of their physical book coming out next year.

As for the lore, there are 4 manufacturers. The post office, anime, luxury cars, and cthulhu mechs.

With the online tools it’s free for players, GM pays for background information and npc stats. There are foundry and roll 20 that can run this for online play.

Combat is fundamentally an easy concept. D20 to see if you hit and D6’s for damage. Although if you have 5 players you can easily spend a session on just one combat, which from what you said is a downside.

  • If you don’t vote then the politicians don’t care. They’ll see your ambivalence as a sign that you think things are fine. Also look more at local elections more than big ones. They help more than you think. Primaries are where you’re actually allow people left of 1980’s Republicans get elected. There have been elections where I’ve been one of the 10 people voting. It really isn’t hard to change elections if you’re doing it right.

Also aren’t most of the book burnings happening in multiple states because of just 10 people. Knowing how to vote and apply pressure is better than making some politician 20 minutes late because you pulled out a valve stem core.

  • For context I work on trash trucks and salt trucks. What are you doing that’s making zip ties cut into wires? I need to make sure that the wire harness that runs along the body above and next to the drive shaft that will spin everything the trucks run over. If the harness is loose the cable will get caught in the debris.

If you’re working in a server room with lots of wires I can see the utility of those fabric fasteners. I don’t get the luxury of the wires only moving when I touch them.

  • A lot of art I’ve seen from it has been from artists and not engineers. I know may sound like an odd complaint, but it has put me off from looking in deeper. I’ve looked at some of the art and just gone “it would be nice if it COULD work like that.” The one that I see frequently enough is the multistory building with different floors of farming.

I know art isn’t implementation. But the fact people think moving dirt from a place with good soil and conditions to growing plants to an area that is shit for it is just not looking at the consequences.

It’s like how the solution to cars aren’t EV’s, even if EV’s seem surface level obvious.

  • My second and third paragraph should have that covered.

If it is a situation where you know you get horny and someone is trying MDMA for the first time, you don’t disclose that you do get horny, and you have sex. I would say that is a gray area that leans towards bad.

My first time trying edibles was with someone that I already had sex with and was planning on having sex with that night. If we got horny from that and fucked sooner than expected then that would be fine.

I guess to sum up, if you put someone in a situation where they don’t have knowledge of the possibilities that is bad. Everyone already feels this when it comes to other things. Like hidden fees. They said x but y happened. Why should I expect y to happen? This is a new situation and I’m ignorant and you took advantage of it. Even if I got what I originally wanted the “price” changed.
