No. As a rule of thumb whenever the EU does something half decent it’s either by necessity or accident.

Tech companies are already lobbying hard at both the European and national levels. The recent AI Act looks like it’s written more by policy wonks who drank the AI industry’s Kool-Aid than by actual experts in the field. On one side they want to cut funding to NGI0, one of the few genuinely good things the EU did in recent memory, which - among other things - funds Lemmy development, and costs pennies at the scale of the EU budgets. On the other they’re planning to pump ungodly amounts of money into “the AI industry” - whatever the fuck that is - because they got sold on GenAI being the next big thing and they don’t want to be left behind.

In EU policy for every half decent thing like the GDPR the are many ChatControls and similarly terrible ideas.

Awesome writeup. I knew the whole ST suite is used in loads of mainstream tracks, but I didn’t know those specific examples. I’ve long had the feeling that 10 d E A T h b R E a s T ⚄ ⚄ by Bon Iver also uses it for the fucked up drums, although don’t quote me on it.

And yeah, Decapitator specifically has a character to its sound that I just haven’t found in any other plugin. In techno I would throw it on almost any channel on a low setting just to add a little bite to stuff. It also sounds good at almost any setting, from barely noticeable warmth to completely mangling sounds. I really like others in the suite too, for specific needs, but that one is the only really unreplaceable one.

If you could help me get my hands on a good crack I’d be eternally grateful, but otherwise no stress.

Switched to a Mac recently and I cannot find a working crack of the Soundtoys suite for it, I am devastated. Decapitator was one of my most used plugins…

Does an instance stop receiving comm updates when there are no more users subscribed to it? I know as soon as one user subs updates start coming in, but it seems we were receiving slop (at least for CTH) until about a week ago when it stopped. Me subbing didn’t make the slop start flowing again.
