“I be working” sounds better though. :p
I’m with you on the no real names, no nudes. “Don’t dox yourself” was the norm pre-Myspace. Facebook made it almost fashionable to do so.
I’m fine with shorthand and colloquialisms, especially in the era of the smartphone and their lack of physical keyboards.
Threema.
Neutron music player.
FairEmail.
I used to see it in the States maybe 15 years ago but I also saw it in the UK (Liverpool) about a decade ago.
That is not a normal interaction anywhere that I’ve been in the States and not in Chicago. Despite what the press says Chicago is a very beautiful and relatively safe city. The people tend to be civil.
You don’t get to pick and choose who uses freely available software.
It’s also part of the reason why so many of these kids (and their parents) are overweight.
Or live near a church and have assholes park in front of your gate despite a sign saying not to.
If they cared about privacy then they wouldn’t use a searchable public database like FB.

No rsync? No pass? I’d definitely have the xmpp and matrix protocols on that list with a few clients listed for desktop and mobile.
It’s definitely more frustrating. I’ve had a similar experience trying to help people with their Windows PCs. Thankfully I’ve managed to convince a few to switch to Linux Mint.
No systemd on my void or gentoo builds either.
Where is a macbook air $300? Off the back of a truck?
Threema still works.
Void is far from torture. It is just as easy to set up as Arch, if not more so.
Arch is too easy to set up nowadays for it to be a “thing”.
Maybe 15 years ago when the process was slightly more complicated but even then it’s always been paint by numbers.
Even Gentoo isn’t that difficult, just time consuming.
Coconut water is awesome, when it comes straight from the coconut. The crap they sell in cartons is depressing and disgusting.
