She cited Anne Applebaum as a credible source within the first three minutes…

Says that the U.S.S.R. executed a few million people ‘all for having political opinions’.

Gives the Katyń massacre as an example of a Soviet atrocity.

Blames the U.S.S.R. for the famine of 1933.

    Repeats the ‘Mongol hordes’ meme.

Repeats the accusation that the U.S.S.R. was an autocracy.

Implies that the Red Terror was wrong because ‘the bourgeoisie was indiscriminately slaughtered.’

Gripes about whataboutism. ‘Well, first of all, maybe some people do want to see less of the Union Jack. I don’t know enough about colonial history to make a judgment here…’ This is maybe the funniest line in her video, though ‘bees are very socialist, as far as I understand, and they produce delicious honey…’ is a good contender. (Very convenient of her to overlook entomophobes, too.)

Implicitly blames Stalin for Putin; says that Khrushchev did not go far enough.

Amazingly, though, she briefly conceded that the Russian people have a ‘general tendency to sweep over the horrors of Soviet history.’ It’s unusual for anticommunists to admit that ~99% of their countrymen aren’t also anticommunists. I like how she is coincidentally(?) wearing white in this video, though.

Long story short: nothing new; just the same tired crap that anticommies and the occasional theory noob have been repeating for decades. Hammer & sickle = swastika, since the Soviets slaughtered millions of innocents just ’cause. Material conditions? Context? Who gives a fuck?

Occasionally she accidentally makes a good point, like this:

‘Real Soviet history hasn’t been properly represented in Western mass media.’

But that’s it. Unless you have algophilia, you aren’t missing out on much.

You know, several weeks ago I saw a fasces on a school’s advertisement and I laughed out loud. It was clear that they were clueless about Fascist Italy’s history, but I’m not going to waste my time telling them to reconsider it, just like I am not going to waste my time asking the Nebraska Blackshirts to pick a new name, and I am not going to tell any institutions to disuse the U.S. flag. At best I might get a disingenuous ‘we appreciate your concern’ reply, but I have the life experience to figure out that they aren’t going to do jackshit.

Anticommunists whine repeatedly about the hammer and sickle because they know that their ideology is privileged enough that authorities are going to take action; it is about entitlement. Contrary to what they claim, it has very little to do with millions of deaths, otherwise they wouldn’t support an ideology like anticommunism, would they?

Yesterday I watched a friend play Call of Duty: WWII, and it looked a hell of a lot like the Western Allies were using the ‘human wave’ tactic on Omaha Beach.

I feel like the Soviets would’ve probably done really bad things if they had millions of more soldiers the cold war would’ve probably been a lot worse.

Casually defending Operation Barbarossa. Typical anticommunist.

the Soviets were determined to kill off the Germans by throwing themselves at them

Oh look, it’s the ‘Mongol hordes’ meme again. Let’s read some actual history:

The idea of the “human wave” tactic is extremely complicated, and it is not fully understood by the average layperson. Like the German Blitzkrieg, the Soviets had their own battle doctrine called “Deep Battle,” which emphasized a combination and coordination of strategic, operational, and tactical levels. The basic idea was to use frontal assaults to penetrate the enemy line and destroy the enemy’s logistical capabilities. It is noteworthy that frontal assaults were not a unique feature of the Red Army. Virtually all participants in the war employed them.

However, at the time, the Soviets lacked the technical superiority of the [Axis]. In many cases, they were dogged by poor training amongst the infantry and an acute shortage of a competent pool of officers. This meant that the Red Army was unable to coordinate at a tactical level. This led to poor decisions and a high loss of life in ordering badly planned and poorly-timed assaults. From [an Axis] soldier’s perspective, this would have simply looked like unsophisticated “human wave” assaults, with soldiers throwing themselves into a meat-grinder.

As for the belief in unlimited manpower, by 1943, the Red Army was suffering from acute manpower shortages. This was due to strategic blunders early in the war, especially in 1941 when [the Western Axis] launched Operation Barbarossa, by far the biggest operation of World War II. The [Axis] actually outnumbered the Red Army on the front line, and within a few short months, the [Axis] had captured over 2.5 million Soviet soldiers and killed half a million. Meanwhile, over a million Soviet soldiers were sick or wounded. This was just between 22 June and 5 December 1941. This factor led to a desperate need to train soldiers as quickly as possible and therefore led to the failure of the Soviet Union’s Deep Battle doctrine.

While the Soviets managed to refine the implementation of their strategy to the point where it was effective, the lack of manpower did continue to be an issue.

    (Source.)

They might invade 3rd world countries or anything not allied with the 1st world countries

    “Y’KNOW, JUST ’CAUSE!”

it is statins [sic] fault that 27 million Russians [sic] died because he sent them out there without training

By this logic, the European colonists were completely innocent of massacring millions of Native Americans because Moctezuma should have trained them all better.

And Stalin Tripled that number in just 10 years.

It has been a while since I watched anybody try the first Call of Duty, but there were several instances where the Soviets shot retreaters, and I vaguely remember the Soviet missions depicting the ‘human wave’ stereotype in a few scenes. I’d have to watch a longplay to be sure. The Soviet missions were not nearly as angsty as Company of Heroes 2, but there were some irksome moments.
