New York City literally derives a major portions of its revenue from Wall Street and the real estate sector.

The financial and real estate sectors are the fundamental parts of the city’s economy. If Mamdani wants to implement his welfare policies and improve public services as he promised, he cannot piss off those people. Simple as that. And he cannot piss off Trump, because the federal government has tremendous power over state and municipality, whether you like it or not.

He’s not going to touch Wall Street and the real estate tycoons if he wants to fulfill his campaign promises to improve NYC. I don’t see why this is so hard to understand?

I think its simpler than that. YIMBYs aren’t your normal real estate lobbyists. They cultivate large a large tenant constituency to make their demands seem popular. Its likely that Mamdani simply wanted that tenant constituency in his coalition despite their supply-side housing brainworms.

Yeah this isn’t a case of fell-for-it-again. The only convincing ones I’ve seen so far have been concessions to the NYPD. But that’s basically him not wanting to become a martyr.

Like people are genuinely convinced that he’s a fraud like a politician from a move when the actual analysis is that he’s going to fail to implement his policies.

I suspect the people so eager to hand out fell-for-it-again awards aren’t yanks and don’t really know what a yimby is.

don’t really know what a yimby is.

YIMBYs are mainly polite-sounding ethnic cleansers. They’re “woke” (imagine those quotes are larger for the correct effect) gentrifiers. People are right to be disgusted with them, though as you point out they have some support among the American public.

Like people are genuinely convinced that he’s a fraud like a politician from a move when the actual analysis is that he’s going to fail to implement his policies.

I mostly agree (he probably means well and thinks concessions are practical and will help him get things done), but sadly the difference in the outcome is not very large.

Also this is one member of a board of people, not independently directly in charge of anything. His housing committee admittedly could be a lot better, but I think a lot of people are seeing these headlines and think this one not great person is fully in charge of things, when in reality it is one person on like a 20 person committee
