I come from Android, i used Antennapod which was a really solid and intuitive open source podcast app. Ideally id like to find something similar.

I find Apple Podcasts app to have pretty poor ui/ux, too cluttered, too many taps to get to where I want to be.

I use Overcast, too. It’s quite good for my needs.

Years ago, the Apple app lost my subscriptions and listening history twice in a short amount of time, so I moved on and haven’t looked at anything else since then.

Overcast is king! Smart speed and voice boost are two stand out features. Can also use it in your Mac if using Apple Silicon.

I like pocket cast because if I don’t like an episode I can just click the checkbox and it’s marked played and moves on. Overcast doesn’t have that

I’ve been using pocket casts for years. First on android now on my iphone. Still works great. It also has smart speed, but it’s just called trim silence

Prefer Pocket Casts to Overcast but both are competent and powerful if need be. And both are worlds better than Apple’s podcast app.

My biggest problem with Apple’s offering is voice control doesn’t work very well and I want to listen on long drives. Specifically, I want to be able to skip past whatever is currently playing and load the next one, but Siri doesn’t like to oblige. Occasionally, I even get it saying there are no unplayed podcasts remaining when I am certain there are.

If a 3rd party app works better in this regard, I’m interested!

I use Downcast. I can’t give you an argument for that over any other apps because other than the Apple podcast app, this is all I’ve used. It works great.
