Hi everyone. I’m looking for my next book (or series) to read but I’m in the mood for a particular theme. I’m hoping you all can assist with some recommendations.

I’m looking for a book written around humanity first discovering FTL travel. So the first moments of humanity starting to explore outside of the solar system.

Don’t ask me why I want this specific kind of story but I do haha. Thank you in advance!

EDIT: Thank you all! I’ve added every book here to my reading list.

Humanity just discovered FTL (I think, it’s been a few years :D) when they get invaded by aliens (who were not that bad): https://www.glynnstewart.com/universe/duchy-of-terra/

This is Glynn Stewart, one of my favourite authors, but don’t expect deep moral conundrums, poetic language, or door stoppers. Instead, you get fun adventure novels, consistent output (I think he releases a novel every 2-3 months), representation (pretty much every book has multiple skin colors, there’s always at least one trans or enby character, often gay or bi MCs; Most of his scifi novels use Em as gender-neutral version of Mr/Mrs), and easy to read language. All his scifi sits between military scifi and space opera, usually somewhat grounded in science, though as far from the super hardness of Expanse as he is from the pudding of Star Trek/Wars

    Spoiler for Arc 2

They really weren’t that bad, and certainly much better than the alternative, so arc 2 is about humanity finding their part in their empire.
