Can we force videos to be embedded? Sometimes I click on a video and it forces the page to go to the site.
This for sure!
I’d suggest a no political videos rule. Also you can expect specialized communities like IdiotsInCars to appear and linking to those communities would be helpful.
Personally I’d prefer to see politics videos allowed. Back in the early days of reddit, r/videos was full of politics videos with lots of engagement. Finally they sent all that to the r/politicalvideo ghetto to die. I always thought that was too bad.
Videos is such a broad category so I definitely understand the sentiment that political videos should be allowed as long as they’re not peddling blatantly false agendas. Personally however, I find politics to be increasingly draining on the psyche and sometimes I just want a community where I can turn my brain off and enjoy some silly and quick laughs or some interesting factoids or mini docs, etc.
I guess it all depends on whether the community here wants c/videos to be lighthearted or a broader category.
I’d prefer we didn’t allow political videos. I would like a place to be able to just enjoy a funny or interesting video without having to sit through some far-right or far-left propaganda piece. That doesn’t mean there’s no place for those but can we keep some areas free of the persistent alternating echo chambers?
What was the reason given for removing politics? I think it’s worth a try, but I bet the engagement quickly becomes too toxic to be worth it.
This thread explains the rationale: https://old.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/3sure8/introducing_rpoliticalvideo/
The end result of this was that all videos that had even a slight connection to politics were removed, and the politicalvideo subreddit never took off.
This makes sense… Allowing political videos invites people with agendas to abuse the ranking system to push that agenda. It could overshadow the promise of a community for cool videos on the internet.
Just want to say that r/videos was my favorite sub. I went there daily to find things to watch.
I hope this community can replace that.
So far so good.
