When they said Reddit has 2000 employees I was shocked. what could they possibly do onto a website that is basically run by users (and sysadmins) and that is basically feature-wise mature? I really can’t figure out 2000 people working every day on Reddit… on what? just for a quick comparison, the whole IAmA was run by a single person (Victoria), so… what are they doing?

    Maybe, but just about everywhere I’ve worked has had a couple of those middle-manager/family connection/got in on the ground floor/etc types. They usually know something or someone and have a nice nebulous title like “Director of” or “Vice President of.” You’ll rarely see them do any PowerPoints, if they do it’ll be some vague pep-rally speech, never metrics or actual numbers. They’re always in a call and never in the office past noon on a Friday.
