Just curious if one central site is used nowadays
After getting sick of Wordpress.com, I now self-host mine. I use Nikola, a static site generator that makes things pretty lightweight and easy.
Can I ask how you share it to people? Is it something that you share with people around you, or is it something that you share publicly, in which case, how?
I’ll usually link new posts on Mastodon, and besides that I’ll send links to individual people who I think might be interested.
It’s not something I try to promote widely – more to share my own thoughts with people I know.
Substack is a popular choice
I often see self-hosted blogs and blogs on Github Pages.
I’m on Mastadon quite a bit
Using Mastodon to blog never thought of that, how is it working out for you?
I’ve made a few friends here and there
Wordpress would be my choice.
Medium and Substack seem to be the two big “central” sites, but also lots of people don’t want a central site so they do self hosted ones. I use a Ghost based site and it’s pretty great IMO.
I think of those both as more career oriented essay type places, but my assumption is just that
substack
I’ve heard of more people using Substack these days. When NPR canceled Rough Translation, the host, Gregory Warner, started one. It’s been a nice way to keep up with him and he’ll likely announce where to listen to his next show there.
You happen to have a link to his blog?
Yep, here you go! Around The World In 85 Days
Awesome. Thank you!
