I know the difference between left and right, but sometimes it takes a few seconds for my brain to find the answer.

I remember what hand I write with, and since I write with my left hand I know what side is left and what side is right.

index finger and thumb on your left hand looks like an ‘L’. that’s the only way i can tell. someone taught me that in karate class as a kid and it’s saved my ass almost every day since.

This reminds me of a book I read once that had a lot of talk about four continents in the four cardinal directions.
My imagination always went like “North? Up. East? Up. West? Up. South? Right.”
Though I didn’t have any problems with keeping in mind that north and south, and east and west were opposite each other, so you had to pass through one of the others first to get there.

yeah. as a teen learning to drive my mom asked me what direction i should turn out a parking lot, i pointed left, meant left, and said right. and then felt as smart as a box of rocks.

I used to. Here is how I resolved it. Left starts with ‘L’. I 'L’ike ‘L’ a lot more than ‘R’. So, I started liking left more. When someone says left, I think, “Oh, the side that I like.” If they say right, then I think, “Oh, the side I like less.”

I was like that for many many years (maybe 20?) then suddenly I never had problems with it. What I did back then was going in for a hand shake then I knew what was right. And the more I did it the less obvious I had to do the shake. I don’t know if this is why I don’t need to do it anymore but now days I am amazed by it instead every time because of how bad I was at it for so long.

Every once in a while I have to do the thing where you make fingerguns with thumbs pointing towards each other, and rhe one that makes an L is the left hand

It’s become a running joke in my friend group

I’m kind of the same. If I’m put “on the spot” I check which fingers I would use for left click and right click on a computer mouse

I do the same thing. This always got me yelled at in elementary school because my teachers thought I didn’t know the difference.

I have to think about it for a moment. Port and starboard are easy because because port has the same number of letters as left, so starboard has to be right. But I don’t live on a boat, and even if I did, I’d still have to get the left and right thing straight.

My grandmother was famous for this, and my family made fun of me for having a lot of her “weird” traits. Guess the jokes on them, since I’m positive I got it from my dad (his mom).

I got L and R tattooed on my (correct) thumbs to use as quick reference. They’re incredibly useful.
