For example searching for Python I see there is “Python” with 10 subs, and “Python@lemmy.ml” with 100 subs.

So you’re able to interact with one community on one instance from another instance. Kinda like how you can email someone with @gmail.com @yahoo.com Or at least that’s my understanding. I just started learning about the Fediverse yesterday.
