With dreamleague and div2 DPC ongoing, and reddit going dark for 2 days, how is this community not exploding like others on lemmy?

People who play dota probably spend so much time playing/watching that they’re oblivious to the Reddit API stuff. They see the subreddit down, shrug, and go play another game.

I think we can start by creating esports thread daily. Is it possible to automate it in here like on reddit?

Most will switch to Discord because its more established and better for live events

    like others on lemmy

    What others?

No seriously? Even as something as ubiquitously popular as /c/Pokemon, which appears to be the most popular one for specific media, is mostly inactive. /c/Anime is the largest general media one and it’s also looking bare.

Even if we do look at active communities like the memes one, you’ll see threads with hundreds of comments but a thread per hour. Lemmy has a ton of people lurking and commenting but no one’s making the content.

It actually shines a light on how little value the third party app users of reddit give to Reddit’s most profitable communities. You know, the ones that mostly repost twitter and tiktok stuff? You’re frustated because on the loser’s team.

    Where are the refugees

But let’s aInswer this. I would hazard there are two answers.

The minority is trying out alternatives. Some older users may be on /d2g/ or Discord since not just did a moderator directly mention them, but also the discord for the subreddit is, no joke, one of the oldest and earliest advertised on the platform. You can go very far back on archives and see it on the subredit sidebar since even before discord was blowing up in google analytics. Some younger users may be spread on other places. But between tildes, squabbles and whatever else people have been naming, I have to congratulate you on finding the only dedicated dota one. You can only do better than this if you know Mandarin or Russian. Or go on Steam forum …which kinda changes nothing about needing Mandarin and Russian.

Here I’ll even be a nice lad: https://discord.gg/rdota2. As for /d2g/, that’s unlinkable, you’re on your own navigating through 4chan’s /vg/.

BUT the majority is just gonna wait out the blackout because it’s just two days. Let’s be honest, both of the above alternatives have a very different culture and format (hell both run actual inhouses. IMAGINE.), and people are just not interested when they hear of it. You’re here asking because you are, maybe, not interested either. You want something that feels like Reddit. They know the blackout will do nothing, and to be honest, people were stupid enough to start it on a Monday instead of a Friday. They’ll just get any dota fix off of twitch or out of the actual game itself.

It’s specially true that it’s easy to wait out if you consider that yesterday there was a whole entire day of game announcements, including one for a Blizzard-RTS revival (It’s called Stormgate) and no one in the discord was really talking about it. Only like 2 or 3 people. Actual Dota players don’t care about the world at large, something like a Reddit Blackout can’t affect them, they only care about playing Dota. So yeah. Monday and Tuesday, they’ll play dotsa lota.

    Tldr:

Want to talk about something? Make a fucking thread.
