Macrotransactions.org, is a website designed specifically to document the prevalence of overmonetization characterized in a phenomenon I call late stage gaming.

~ The website’s grading for Call of Duty: Warzone ~

~ A comparison of Halo 5 and Infinite’s monetization ~

On their about section they list multiple arguments against microtransactions in their about section I fully agree with one exception I strongly object:

These practices don’t exist “to make money”, they exist to increase profits, a burden that should not fall upon the customer, and yet it does. Many of these companies are massively profitable, worth hundreds of millions, or perhaps even several billions. These companies have passed the “somehow” bridge and are squarely in the “we want everything” ocean. Greed is killing games, and it’s being played off as something that is beneficial to the customer.

It’s clear the website’s administrators have minimal class consciousness and fail to see the flaws in this statement. “To make money” and increase profits are one in the same because capitalism by definition demands ever-increasing profits even for the sake of survival, there’s a reason why enshittification is inevitable. It’s simply far more profitable pandering to whales, marveloids, and all manner of consoomer filth than publish quality games.

Regardless, the rest of the piece is hit the jackpot on several points. Before you buy a new game, ALWAYS look it up on this website. We must avoid live service games where possible and this website helps us in that approach.
