Seventh edition! For the first time in a core set we got some foils and a new artwork for each card in the set; offering some variety in what we were getting even if we were pulling the 12th card of the same name in a set. 0 mana rocks or hell, cards in general are always welcome. For certain decks, it would immediately become staples. For others, it’d simply be a reminder of age. Kobolds of Kher Keep is one of those, being the oldest card with a 0 mana cost in 1994 itself.

It’s hard to believe this game has been going on for that long. About 20 years and how much has it changed? How many cards do you use from those days in your deck when not playing vintage? Quite a few still work in commander where there is no set-limit. Part of the fun there is being able to upend the table with a forgotten card from Mirage; or being able to bust out multiple artifacts that give you a limitless hand-size and a land so you can guarantee yourself an endless hand.

Cast omniscience with an endless hand and add a good card draw engine? You got yourself a complete game in almost any set that it’s legal.

“Knowledge knows no bounds.”
