If it’s anything like the MAGAts of my own biological relatives, what was going on was a lot of self-loathing, hatred, and blaming dehumanized “others” for their own frustrations and shortcomings, from losing jobs to criminal records.
Yup, the same people who are wearing trump shit, (and the equivalent in kanada) were the ones calling people with empathy “bleeding hearts” 10 to 20 years ago. They’ve always been this way.
