For this special Thursday Spooky Night, we’re filling a pair of popular requests. First up is Last Night in Soho (2021), starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a fashion designer who opens a portal to the 1960s London, where she meets her idol singer. But uh-oh, looks like the fabric of reality isn’t as tightly-woven as she thought, and London soon turns from a dream to a nightmare as she falls into sex work. Aaaaahhhh!! Will she be able to escape? I guess we’ll find out. Director is edgar Wright, the guy behind Shaun of the Dead (2004), Scott Pilgrim (2010), and Baby Driver (2017), among others.

After that is I Saw the TV Glow (2024), the current viral sensation sweeping lefty film spaces. What happens when you get so into a TV show that your sense on reality starts to blur, and then you start sensing a whole new supernatural world beneath your own, and your self-identity starts to change? A whole lot of LGBT-related stuff, according to the reviews of this film, which present it as one of the best examples of queer cinema in recent years. It is the best-reviewed film to date of director Jane Schoenbrun, who is otherwise known for the similarly LGBT-themed We’re All Going to the World’s Fair (2021). Looks good; let’s watch.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Hextube, right here:
