The Montezuma quail is a stubby, secretive New World quail of Mexico and some nearby parts of the United States. It is also known as Mearns’s quail, the harlequin quail, and the fool quail. This bird’s song sounds like a descending whistle combined with a buzz. Concerning their other calls, these birds are often silent; but Females give a quavering, descending series of metallic whistles with an otherworldly quality; males give a similarly strange buzzy descending whistle that might be mistaken for an insect. Foraging coveys give soft, chicken-like purring, clucking, and moaning sounds. Here is a link so you can listen to them too.

Because of the colours and patterns. As the other comrade said “upper coat looks like withered away eaten through leaves”, it makes me think of how an undead bird would look like, while still being cute.
