I’m not surprised. The idea of drawing an edge through cork or soft wood is used in knife sharpening to deburr an edge or to remove fatigued metal that is about to fracture. I wouldn’t expect shaving to create edge conditions where corking would be very effective. Though I wouldn’t do it with a replaceable blade, I can see where stropping (palm, denim, etc.) could make a difference.
