I have seen people dismiss and ridicule analysis of a few show soundtracks, stating it’s “not deep” and “just songs.” Like… even if you think the music “isn’t deep,” thinking that a composer didn’t think about the mood, characters, plot, etc. when creating the ACCOMOANYING MUSIC is just ridiculous. Idiots will insist that everything is a vacuum and everything is just words and sound. Like if it some bullshit like Big Bang Theory, yeah, probably no deep thought, but so much media has intentional and subconscious choices in the way it’s presented. Even if you paint literal blue curtains and it’s not a metaphor for anything, there is still meaning to it because (unless you live in a shack in the woods) it’s commentary on perceived pretentiousness.
I rather talk to a pretentious asshole who overanalyzes everything than to someone so creatively and intellectually bankrupt. And I’m not saying you need to be an artist or be aware or understand the “deeper meaning,” but at the very least acknowledge that creative works have conscious and subconscious decisions.

I’ve also really come to hate the term “pretentious” because it usually means “is passionate about the meaning of something I don’t care about”
