For this extra-long, spooky edition of Sunday Slop Night, first up is The Grudge 3 (2009), continuing our journey through the series from the previous two days. A ghost girl continues to scare people to death. Boo! After that is Kwaidan (1964), which is widely-regarded as one of the best Japanese horror films of all time. Directed by Masaki Kobayashi (otherwise best-known for 1962’s Harakiri), it is a three-hour anthology consisting of four folk tales, each involving ghosts and other spookiness. Since this is effectively four short films in one, we can pause in the middle for a break, if need be. Last is a shorter film, The Pied Piper (1986), a twisted 56-minute Czech take on the folk tale of the same name in which rats unleash their wrath on humanity for their greed. Oh, and it’s entirely in stop-motion and all dialogue is gibberish. Rave reviews across the board for this one; it is currently ranked at #97 on Letterboxd’s Top 100 animated films Let’s give it a whirl.
