It’s almost as if both sides lost their credibility by commiting atrocious terrorists acts as a way to denouce what the other side is doing to them.

We need to stop the narrative that it has to be bad guys vs. good guys - both sides are the bad guys in this historical conflict.

I recently watched the first episode of a documentary series about the troubles in Northern Ireland (Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland). In it they interviewed both former IRA and former UDF members. Both groups described how real their hatred was for the other side and the certainly they had that their cause was righteous. In hindsight both groups talked of how stupid they now feel, how their actions didn’t serve anything other than to perpetuate the cycle of violence that their community was stuck in. I see so many parallels to the crisis in Gaza to this. I don’t expect a Good Friday-like agreement in Gaza, but I sure do hope I’m wrong.
