      What do you mean, ‘in theory’? If you mean according to the admins, no. The description is: “A community of privacy and FOSS enthusiasts, run by Lemmy’s developers”, and the What is Lemmy.ml post doesn’t mention ideology at all. The sidebar used to say this was a ‘leftist instance’ [meaning socialist] but even that got dropped after the reddit.com API drama. It’s always been open to anarchists and other non-M-L socialists as well as M-Ls. The TLD choice (“.ml”) is not really a policy - it’s free domains from Mali, and it’s a neat little in-joke but it doesn’t make this a “Marxist-Leninist instance” like Lemmygrad is.

      BUT

      None of that actually matters. My question is why make a redundant tankie community instead of using the existing ones? What is the benefit?
