Not a writing prompt but this does make me think of the Dark Tower
The party knew that Acererak was going to be a formidable foe. They knew that he’s a lich from a different age. They knew that there must be some reason nobody has defeated him for thousands of years. He has, after all, slain even the gods.
But they are young. And they knew that in their heart of hearts that they will never grow old or die.
Or at least they did until…
The ranger is blasted into a wall and falls limp with his leg having cast away from his torso as though it were nought more than a ball one might play catch with. Acererak cackles and hisses at the party, “I truly revile when young, frail adventurers believe that they can defeat me. I am the most powerful lich to ever exist. And yet I must now waste an afternoon to exterminate the next group of nobody’s who think they are special”
The remaining three party members suddenly realize their folly in attempting challenge the Archlich Acererak himself. Anastasia the Echo Knight, Xirok the Twilight Cleric, and Loki the Mystic all realize that they are on the brink of Annihilation.
Ana quicky shouts, “Xi, get that scroll of plane shift ready! It’s too late to save Marcus but we might still be able to save ourselves!” Xi, nearly unconscious on the ground himself, sits up along the wall, reaches into his bag and grabs a scroll.
Acererak continues cackling and fires off another powerful spell at Ana. She dodges the main blast but it still hits her with enough force to knock her down. “Xi, hurry it up man! We runnin outta time!” urges Loki.
Xi, eyes half glazed over already, opens the scroll and begins chanting in a strange language and then the party sees a flash of brilliant light. The last thing Xi sees before falling unconscious is… a saloon? What in the nine hells is a saloon?
Upon regaining consciousness, Xi is greeted by pain in places he didn’t even know he could hurt. He also must have made some noise upon waking up because an old, grandmotherly lady comes in and starts fretting over him and making sure he’s not going to hurt himself any further. After offering him a drink of water she walks off to another room.
Realizing that he now has a chance to gather his bearings somewhat, he sits up and takes a look around. Well… at least Ana and Loki are here too. And they both seem to be breathing. I suppose that’s some consolation in all this.
Xi hears two sets of footsteps approaching on the creaky wooden floor and overhears the woman say, “…men and a woman appearing out of the blue beat half to hell and back. I’ve been praying to God for 3 days now and I still ain’t got any more answer than I had the first moment these strangers fell out of the sky in front of my saloon.”
Xi hears a male voice drawl in response, “Welll if these folk are here and up to no good then I’ll take care of it. Don’t you worry yourself no more about it now Miss Betsy.”
Taking a break from writing this for now. I haven’t stretched any of my writing muscles in years. I’ll probably come back to this.
Ooh this was goooood, definitely @ me if you write more!
