Apparently when you subscribe to a lower tier plan such as the one month one, the amount you paid (minus what you already “used”) will be deducted from the upgrade price if you decide to commit for a longer amount of time.
This is great for people like me who want to try out all the features (including custom domains, Proton Bridge and SimpleLogin) without having to commit for one or two years and without having to pay the 65% higher price of the monthly plan.
I had already accepted the fact that I’d need to pay the monthly fee but this is a much appreciated gesture!
Never thought I’d pay for email, but I’ve been really happy with their email, calendar, and VPN. The only service I don’t think I’ll ever use is their password manager since I prefer Bitwarden for that.
How about their drive? I still am waiting for a Linux client. Or I wish they’d at least open up a common protocol that other existing apps could hook into.
Their VPN app on Linux is a pain in the ass. If you forget to close out of it before shutting down, then you have to manually reconnect to wifi, so yeah that’s not good.
I’ve not done more with their drive yet other than test it, but I can see myself using it quite a lot over time.
More support for Linux would be #1 on my Proton wishlist
