The summer is over, schools are back, and the data is in: ChatGPT is mainly a tool for cheating on homework.::ChatGPT traffic dropped when summer began and schools closed. Now students are back, and they’re using the AI tool again more.

In many countries, schools only care about grades. I was pretty good at getting good grades by understanding what will be tested and minimizing the effort to get there. I would’ve totally used ChatGPT to do my homework.

I also did this, but if I could go back and do it again, I would actually read the books and do more of the work. I’ve actually thought about going back and getting some text books as an adult and doing it on my own. What the point of going to school if you don’t walk away from it with actual knowledge?

I did the work in areas where it was hard to avoid, but in English class, and other such classes, I just bull shitted my way through with cliff notes, and I skimmed those at best. I feel like this has left some gaps I’d like to close. ChatGPT for everything would make it 1000x worse.

Sure, when you have time you can look stuff up, but if you’re on a call for work and someone uses some common reference, which is only common because everyone read the same book, looking things up doesn’t work so well. A person may not even realize there is something they need to look up to understand the point.
