    Yeah, to be an astronaut you usually need to be a fighter pilot with a difficult degree like engineering or medicine. That doesn’t leave much time for a family unless you’re Buzz Aldrin who managed to do all that and still find time to cheat

      That would play less of a role I’d say. Pilot licenses are maybe a thing for half the international astronaut corps, maybe even a bit less - but those typically come from a military career, in younger years. An scientific or medicine degree doesn’t take all that much time, unless you’re me and really enjoy your time as a university student :D

      Astronaut Scott Parazysnki had a family, was a doctor, did stuff like climbing Everest. He also wrote a book, which makes it very clear the type of ego that lets you “balance” all that.
