So I had an old account that I posted a lot from on this sub and if you could see what I posted before then you would know that our admins are ridiculous (local community college), expectations are sky high, budget is 6ft under. Basically they want champagne on a beer budget with an IT department that’s been stretched far too thin (please tell me why the IT department should be responsible for the broadcasting side of live stream events, not the network, the actual broadcast). They have recently become sick of hearing the term “End of Life” or “End of Support” in a futile attempt at “If I don’t see it, it’s not real.” so that they don’t have to give us budget for new equipment. We have $70,000 worth of access points to replace because ours will be EoL soon, we have probably over $100,000 worth of equipment that we need because a lot of other things are reaching EoL and EoS soon, but they deny us money for it and when we explain the EoL status that’s coming up, they say “I don’t want to hear that, there’s no such thing! It still works!” acting as if they know more about the technology than us, pretending that Cisco will just make an exception for us and continue support for outdated products.

Has anyone else come accross this? Is this a new industry trend among admins? The writing has been on the wall for a long time and I am leaving in a couple of years (got a kid on the way, need some more certifications, etc. but then I am OUT) but until that day comes, I’ve been taking mental notes about the ridiculous things I hear.

EDIT: I can’t really keep up with all of the comments, I’ve seen a lot of really good advice on here, some that we’ve already tried and have failed to get a favorable outcome. We are willing to try, we haven’t given up completely, but we’re pretty close. If something doesn’t change, I’m pretty sure all three of us will be gone within a couple of years.
