Hey guys,

I know the economy is slowing and causing our salaries to decrease when it comes to new job offerings but damn. I went from feeling like a rockstar to feeling like I don’t know anything. All the job postings I am seeing lately that are offering north of 80k (I make 80k now) sound like they want you to know EVERYTHING. Windows server administration, Linux administration, routing, switching, firewall, AWS, various automation technologies, Office 365, Kubernetes, with a side of coding knowledge and those are only the basics, they often include other technologies specific to the buisness on top of those. I litterally just had an interview that asked for all of that an more offering 100k. Not to mention I’ve seen jobs offering in the 60’s that ask for the same.

I know there are some sysadmins out there that are definitely “that guy” and much better than I am but damn…what all do I have to know for a decent wage? Furthermore what ever happned to separation of duties? You really want one guy with every key to the kingdom? I am working on learning powershell in more depth and adding python to my toolkit but beyond that I am not sure where else to start.

I feel like a fraud when I look at these job postings. Some of you that are involved in the hiring process of people in the 80-100k+ what are you looking for?
