    I guess they are different in the US. Sure, it’s better than nothing, but I’ve never seen a car slow down, they seem to use them here to give people somewhere to stand so the cars can go full speed and pretend there isn’t a vulnerable person standing 3 feet from where they are flying by at 50mph.

    If there is a lot of traffic and cars are already going slow, someone might stop near one to let someone cross who is waiting. That’s about it.

    Some cities have laws that you have to stop for a pedestrian waiting to cross, but almost no one does and it’s not really enforced.
