I feel like many users are excited about the prospect of the United States eating shit in this geopolitical struggle. We should be against US imperialism full stop. However, the prospect of the US failing is making some users too giddy about Ukraine failing as well since the two are tied together right now.

I’ve seen comments with the crab dance about Ukraine, the Ukrainian flag burning emoji when the situation is not even applied to Ukrainian neo Nazis, blatantly saying Kievan Rus was actually Russia when that’s not even the historical consensus.

The United States is using Ukraine as a pawn and forcing Ukraine to take a harsh stance against Russia. It’s not a sovereign nation and Putin does not care about the well-being of Ukrainian citizens. Does Russia have legitimate gripes against NATO? Absolutely but we’re teetering on Putin apologia and sharing RT news uncritically.

Idk mods, it would be nice to have a reminder that the working class of Ukraine suffers and talk of “Ukraine ending” should be frowned upon.

Edit: I’m sorry for not including I’m not living in Ukraine but my family came to the US as refugees.

So I actually bothered logging on for this instead of just lurking. I have immediate family in what was formerly eastern Ukraine.

OP- are you from Ukraine or are you culturally Ukrainian? I ask because there is a sharp divide for Ukrainians between Western Ukraine vs Eastern Ukraine. In general Ukrainian immigrants tend to be much wealthier and have left Ukraine during the soviet era for similar reasons you see many wealthy people leave in countries that became socialist.

If that is not your history, then okay, but I have had many people who say they are Ukrainian arguing with me on :reddit-logo: who have claimed this and tried to paint the Ukrainian government as victims instead of aggressors.

The current Ukrainian government is fascist and came into power during a NATO-backed coup disguised as a color revolution. It has murdered protestors, committed war crimes, and oppressed LGBTQ+ people. The neo-nazis are in the Ukrainian government, especially the military. Many socialists in the military defected in the east to the DPR and LPR. I won’t talk about Kievan Rus, I agree that is nonsense and it does not matter.

Putin does not care about the well-being of Ukrainian citizens

Of course not, he has never. He is acting in self-interest because Ukraine and the US are escalating violence. Do you remember the lethal aid Biden sent? Where do you think that lethal aid went? Who do you think it was shot at?

we’re teetering on Putin apologia and sharing RT news uncritically.

Putin is a corrupt bastard. I think many on this site cannot tell the difference between not viewing him as satanic vs licking his boot. I wasn’t going to try to argue this until your post came up.

Yes, the working class of The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) have been for the last 8 years attacked and murdered by the Ukrainian military in violation of the Minsk agreements.

Ukraine is an imperialist puppet state and being manipulated by United States. There is hope if more people’s republics spring up. I have many criticism of DPR and LPR (both are awful with queer rights), but I am not so idealist that I think either of those is communist or perfect.

They just have more chance at liberation when allowed self-determination. Ukraine is divided as a country and has been for almost a decade. I hope it survives, but it must be with a new government.
