I am surprised that this issue exists at all - but can it really be that with Lemmy it is not possible to search or join communities from other instances except for lemmy.ml!? I’d like to enter something like !discuss@lemmy.social

i tried briefly how to do that on lemmur, and couldn’t figure it out.
it does work, however if you just paste the url of the community into the search box of lemmy.ca, then sometimes you need to switch the type to “Communities”, and it should show up. you can also use the format you have above as well. i tested with
https://midwest.social/c/main, or!main@midwest.socialwould work too.
