Tamgential but this game is extremely difficult. I am playing on Explorer difficulty but I have to save scum like hell. I am in Act 1. My party is level 4 but all the next enemies I can find are level 5 and destroy me. I don’t have any good equipment either. The few magical items I have been found I have had to feed to the that bastard. But I think good equipment is in all likelihood not required at this point.
Interesting. I’m playing on Explorer as well, and I haven’t died once. Mind you, I’m still in Act 1 and I think I’m at level 4 or 5. There are tons of tips/tricks videos on YouTube, some of them around 10 minutes long. The game has a lot of systems and choices to make, and I feel that you can really optimize your combat and builds. However, I don’t think you need to try very hard on the Explorer difficulty (based on my playtime). Maybe you could tell us which class you’re playing and which companions you’re bringing along, so someone might be able to give you more tips
I am playing as the tiefling barbarian lady and currently my party is shadowheart, gale and the rogue drow. At the camp I have laezel and the blade of frontiers.
The builds for these characters are not well thought out. When leveling up most of the choices have already been made for me. There are a few options but I have no idea what to choose for them so I pick them almost randomly.
I will try looking at tips videos.
We have a couple people playing Baldurs Gate 3 on Hexbear. Im sure if you made a thread some people would give you some pointers. I would love to give you some tips but im kind of a noob myself.
No worries. What are you playing as?
I made a Tiefling Sorcerer. You use charisma as your main stat for sorcery it makes you also really good at talking. I head a couple of cases in which I completely avoided fights due to persuasion. Also the sorcerers metamagic is really cool. Allows you to do stuff like increasing spells range or cast a spell twice.
If you have astarion it shouldn’t be too hard to pickpocket merchants. This should help with equipment and money issues. Once you have 400 gold to spare you can respec your entire main party into whatever stat line and class you want. If you don’t know how to respec try exploring the underground temple near the crash site.
For Karlach, great weapon fighting is one of best perks in 5E and she already has the proficiency.
Increasing the main attribute to 18 is also a “must” for basically every build that’s trying to be meta. 20 is better, but there are items that can help you avoid spending a feat for the +5.
Your rogue is going to be a menace if you can get dual hand bows and consistently position for sneak attack. If you take karlach into wolf heart as the subclass she grants advantage against enemies she is in melee range of which makes it very easy to consistently proc sneak attacks regardless of ability to hide.
It might have a bit of dissonance, but shadow heart really does benefit from a respec to life cleric (there are a lot of act 1 items that provide buffs when a character uses a heal).
Once Gale gets fireball that’s all you need to make him work lol.
Did you kill zhalk in the prologue? Everburn blade is amazing. If you don’t have it taking laezals sword for Karlach should help until you can another magical great weapon.
Hope this helps a bit.
This helps. Thanks a lot. Do you know of a place which has information on good builds that I can just follow? I don’t know DnD5e so that would help. Once I get a better handle on the game I am gonna start a new game with a custom character.
Not really. I’ve tried finding stuff and gaming advice websites are probably the shittiest SEO ai written part of the internet. Forums and dedicated rpg sites are probably the best bet. Avoid fextralife and other “prolific” wikis I’ve seen straight up bad advice on them.
The subreddit and the BG3 builds subreddit have a lot of answered questions on how build x or multi class x and y.
If you have a solid idea on what you want to build that’s a good option and if not can help you find ideas.
5E itself has a lot written about it and most of the classes are very accurately translated into the game (monks and rogue subclass thief are both way stronger in BG3).
Here’s an articlethat’s rather good that covers how to optimize a build.
neoseeker has some quick build skeletons that provide a solid start to build on. They were from EA so they stop at 4, but by level 5 most builds are going to be “online” anyways.
this site is genuinely really good, no notes.
If you want help with a specific build I can try to find some options or send you a cliff notes version.
Just need a melee fighter build for my character and guides for leveling up companions. Don’t mind following something cookie cutter. Thanks again.
