Lemmy (and by extension the fediverse) is theoretically more robust against powerhungry individuals because people can move to another server. But if users loose all their data (their liked / saved posts and subscribed communities) when moving to another server they are less likely to do so, which increases the power of the people who run the servers over the users of those servers.
So if there’s some time in the future I’d love to have a feature that is making it simple to “move my stuff”.
Importing and exporting subscriptions is coming soon, listed here:
Settings shortcut: Sync Ultra > Import / export subscriptions
It’s marked as an ultra feature.
How did you link directly to my settings like that? Are you a wizard??
Long press any setting and then it’ll copy the markdown to your clipboard.
This is a Lemmy request vs a Sync request. Lemmy I believe has this on their roadmap already anyway. Sync would just need to implement that once it’s done.
Oh nice to know! Thank you!
I’ve seen this tool posted as well, but I haven’t used it yet to comment on how well/easy it works.
I’ve used this, works fantastic
You can use this tool. I use it to keep my lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works accounts in sync
On this note, the 3 feeds we have are everything (federated with your home instance), local (only your home instance), and subscribed (any communities you’ve subscribed to, regardless of instance).
Is there a way to see or subscribe to the local feed of another instance?
I couldn’t figure it out earlier but it would be a pretty nice feature. If not natively possible through lemmy, then maybe there’s a way sync could manage it regardless?
I guess you could make another account on that instance. You can also change the default instance when browsing from the Anonymous profile.
